【榜单】channel ORANGE领跑华盛顿邮报年度最佳专辑 It was a year without masterpieces.Instead, 2012’s best pop albums felt more like weird friends. They crashed our parties, passed out on our couches and ate all of our Golden Grahams in the morning. Now we’re pals. Also, I said masterpieces. There was one. It came from Frank Ocean, a 25-year-old R&B rookie whose summer opus, “Channel Orange,” exploded the emotional possibilities of contemporary pop music. At his best, Ocean was sharing deep secrets with a universe of strangers — an approach he parabolized with “Bad Religion,” a ballad about unloading your spiritual confusion on an anonymous taxi driver. And while nobody came close to matching Ocean’s quiet intensity this year, that doesn’t mean 2012’s best albu***acked quirk, courage or character. Best friends forever — maybe. Best friends for now — for sure. 1. Frank Ocean, “Channel Orange” As a singer, songwriter and storyteller, Ocean is every bit as fluid as he is commanding, delivering songs crammed with moods, memories and detailed characters — all sung by a protagonist who’s earned himself a place among the greats. 2. Neil Young and Crazy Horse, “Psychedelic Pill” There’s a big, ugly future coming to bury his generation, and Young is not gonna take it. The latest from the rock legend and his trusty band is jammy and cagey, demanding and rewarding, thick with improvisation and rife with the fury that gushes when you refuse to let a changing world change you. 3. Jessie Ware, “Devotion” With so many British chanteuses willing to abuse their lungs in the name of American soul music, this 28-year-old stands out by being subtle. Her voluptuous debut — it landed in Britain this year and is expected to see stateside release in 2013 — wisely aspires to match the classiness and confidence of Sade. 4. Future, “Pluto” While Drake and his imitators continue to preen on the fault line between singing and rapping, this Atlanta sensation rhymes in Auto-Tuned grumbles. Future doesn’t sound like a breakout hip-hop star so much as a Delta bluesman’s android descendant. 5. Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang, “En Yay Sah” Washington’s own Nabay electrifies traditional bubu music from his native Sierra Leone with a hand from some Brooklyn rock musicians — but leaping oceans and centuries is this album’s secondary achievement. The real triumph is how Nabay makes his jittery dance music race across our ears without dropping any of its sweet, high-def sensuality. 6. Fresh and Onlys, “Long Slow Dance” What exactly do we expect rock-and-roll to do in the 21st century? It can’t rule the world. It probably can’t change it, either. But it can still shimmer and glow and jingle and jangle, and make your heart ache in 4/4 time. These San Franciscans prove it. 7. Kellie Pickler, “100 Proof” On her third album, this “American Idol” survivor finally uses that big voice to sing big songs about no-good men, absentee parents, the ghost of Tammy Wynette and her own backbone, which suddenly sounds as if it were made of aerospace-grade titanium. 8. A Tribe Called Red, “A Tribe Called Red” Dance music is obviously designed to make our groove things shake, but the best stuff can be paralyzing. Try not to freeze when you hear this Canadian DJ trio mesh Native American music with crushing electronic dance rhythms. 9. Dierks Bentley, “Home” See***ike every man in Nashville wants to be the Nashville Everyman. Here, Bentley actually pulls it off, singing from various vantages with smarts and charm. Bonus points for the patriotic title track, which still sounds sensible after an election season that left America covered in red-and-blue bruises. 10. Laurel Halo, “Quarantine” On the physical plane, this innovative singer-producer resides in Brooklyn, but her fantastically forlorn, severely synthetic pop songs sound native to the great digital everywhere. Top singles 1. Robbie Williams, “Candy” 2. Tanlines, “All of Me” 3. Juicy J, “Bandz a Make Her Dance” 4. Bleached, “Searching Through the Past” 5. Kacey Musgraves, “Merry Go ’Round” 6. Fun., “We Are Young” 7. Shooter Jennings, “Southern Family Anthem” 8. Usher, “Climax” 9. Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX, “I Love It” 10. Popcaan, “Only Man She Want”
【新闻】法海被评为mtvU's Man Of The Year Frank Ocean has had quite a few 2012 successes, namely his critically acclaimed, best-selling and now Grammy-nominated album Channel Orange and a personal triumph in his admission of loving a man, for which Ocean received an outpouring of support both for his honesty and for breaking boundaries in the hip-hop and R&B communities. Therefore it should come as no surprise to learn that Ocean has been named mtvU's Man of the Year, along with Pakistani social activist Malala Yousafzai who was named Woman of the Year. All things considered, Ocean has been "having a moment" for almost the whole year. A few of our favorite performance benchmarks include his stirring, stripped-down performance at the VMAs and his debut on "Saturday Night Live," which included an assist on guitar from John Mayer. Ocean has been in high demand by other artists wanting to work with him, including Alicia Keys, who recently admitted that she was incredibly fortunate to collaborate with him on a song for her Girl on Fire album. Admirably, Ocean seems unfazed by all the acclaim and attention and told MTV News recently that he felt 2012 was a "peaceful but active" year for him. Yousafzai is a 15-year-old activist who survived being shot in the head by Taliban soldiers that opposed her fight for equal-opportunity education in Pakistan. The fearless activist has no qualms about facing a literal firing squad in her fight for education. "Even if they come to kill me, I will tell them what they are trying to do is wrong, that education is our basic right," she said recently. Yousafzai's efforts were recognized by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who declared November 10 "Malala Day" in an effort to draw attention to the global struggle for women's education. "Malala courageously risked everything to stand up against the brutal forces that tried to silence her. In the face of intensely dangerous opposition, she refuses to stop fighting for equality, and at just 15 years old, is already an icon for her generation and the world," said Stephen Freidman, president of MTV. "mtvU is proud to shine a spotlight on her, and on Frank Ocean, whose boundary-shattering music and commitment to personal expression has touched and inspired millions. He refused to let homophobia stop him, and the cultural impact of his work will echo for years to come."
【新闻】Big Boi Vicious Lies & Dangerous Rumors Details Next month, OutKast rapper Big Boi releases his second solo album Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors, and we’ve already heard a bunch of songs: “She Said OK,” “Gossip,” “Mama Told Me,” “Lines.” Apparently, though, we did not know just how far this album was going to go. We now have the Big Boi tracklist, and it’s almost stunningly heavy on left-field indie rock collaborations. There is, for example, a track with Wavves. It’s basically impossible to imagine how a Big Boi/Wavves collab might sound, and it’s even harder to imagine it being any good. Big Boi’s track record speaks for itself, but this tracklist has just a whiff of creeping doom to it. Beyond thue Wavves thing, the album also has contributions from Little Dragon, Jai Paul, Kid Cudi, T.I., Ludacris, Bosko, and many others. There’s also a reunion with protege-turned-adversary-turned-friend Killer Mike, and three different Phantogram collabs. Phantogram: The new Andre 3000! Check out the tracklist below, and help us in trying to figure out what the hell is going on here. TRACKLIST: 01 “Ascending” 02 “The Thickets” (Feat. 【新闻】Frank Ocean Had A 'Peaceful But Active Year' Frank Ocean isn't a man of many words, unless they come pouring out in song, but that's what we love about him, right? The singer/songwriter hitGQ's Men of the Year party in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, where he managed to sum up his entire year in about seven words while walking the red carpet. "It's a real peaceful but active year," he told MTV News. "So it's cool. I'm just excited to be here, thanks to GQ magazine." Peaceful isn't exactly the word we would've used to describe Ocean's year, but he certainly knows better. The 25-year-old surprised fans this summer when he opened up about his sexuality via Tumblr and then released his debut studio album, Channel Orange, landing at #2 on the charts in his first week and earning much critical acclaim. Since then, he's been busy, spending time in the studio with heavyweights like Jay-Z and Pharrell. When asked about the overwhelming number of artists who want to work with him these days, he responded, "That's not a problem. It's not, like, a tragedy. It's cool, it's awesome, it just means people f--- with me, and that's cool." Last month, Ocean posted a stream of random thoughts on his Tumblr page in the form of a letter. In it, he gave fans some insight into what he was thinking during his studio session with Jay and Skateboard P. "I sat in the studio days ago with Jiggaman and Pharrell. Pharrell looks 19. They seemed like old friends," he wrote. "I wonder how many trophies are logged in their mind. I wonder why they still build. I build things for the sport and the therapeutic benefits. For immortality biiiitch."
【新闻】格莱美前瞻之最佳新人 As the end of the year quickly happens, so does the inevitability that award show season is gearing up and will be in full swing. The mecca of music awards is of course the Grammy's, which will be held on February 10th in Los Angeles and broadcast on CBS. The actual list of nominations will be announced on December 5th at the annual nominatons special, which will be co-hosted by multiple Grammy winners LL Cool J and Taylor Swift. So who will be in the running for some of the top categories this year? One of the more coveted and highly controversial in recent years happens to be the award for Best New Artist. In the past two years alone Bon Iver (2012) and Esperanza Spalding (2011) have won, causing people to believe that the Grammy's tend to root for the underdog when picking their winners over heavy favorites like Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj. The five I have chosen merit what it is to be a Best New Artist for sure, and these are deserving and hopefully will be contenders when it is announced on December 5th. As in previous years, the Grammys seem to keep with a variety of nominees for Best New Artist in terms of genre. For their hip-hop nominee, they have definitely kept in tune with acts and artists that have become huge in the industry since their original nomination (Kanye West, J-Cole). This year's nominee could be a bevy of people from 2 Chainz to French Montana. Those are great of course, but the obvious choice here is Frank Ocean. The Odd Future member blew all of our minds away with his debut release "Channel Orange" which debuted at number two on the Billboard charts. Featuring several amazing songs like "Swim Good" and "Thinking Of You", it catapulted him to superstar level and was the best part of this years Video Music Awards as well. He announced before his album's release that he was bisexual, something that is considered by many as taboo in the hip-hop industry but since then hasn't stopped him and the naysayers have been quiet as well. This has been a great year for him and this is a guaranteed nomination for the hip-hop ingenue. There also is a country nominee thrown in there as well. The country ones, just like hip-hop, have a hard time winning in this category as seen in recent years (Taylor Swift, The Band Perry). The one nominee that will be thrown in here could be American Idol winner Scotty McCreery or even duo Thompson Square. More than likely they will choose Hunter Hayes, who just picked this award up at the Country Music Awards this past week. The fresh faced 21 year old from Louisiana is giving Taylor Swift a run for her money in terms of youth, relatability and overall appeal for a younger audience. He hit number one on the country singles charts with his song "Wanted" and a well received self-titled debut album. Several artists over in Europe don't get US recognition until they are very well underway in their native country. These two artists are proof that success can be worth the wait, you just have to be patient. Back in 2011 on Saturday Night Live with Tina Fey as host, Ellie Goulding debuted herself to an American audience but the problem was it didn't give her the kickstart she hoped for. As time went by, her single "Lights" caught the attention of many radio stations and soon started gaining a big rotation on MTV and VH1's music channels as well. The album of the same name has been out for almost two years now, but the Grammys have a history of nominating people in this category that have been around for longer than one year. The song skyrocketed to number two on the US charts selling three million copies in a matter of months. Now with a new album out called "Halcylon" featuring the "Beats By Dre" commercial jingle and just as catchy first song "Anything Could Happen", there is no doubt she is the next big thing both overseas and here.
