中国人在口译中常遇到的困难 2014-02-15 中国人在口译中常遇到的困难 2014-02-15 中国人在口译中常遇到的困难还有数字以及一些带有中国特色表达法的翻译，这些需要着重训练。 1. 数字口译迅速地翻译数字对中国人来说不容易。这是因为汉语和英语表达数字的方式不同。汉语是个、千、万、十亿……，也就是以“十”的倍数来表达；而英语则是在数字超过千以后，以“千”（thousand）的倍数来表达的。如“一万”是“十千”，即ten thousand；“十万”是“百千”，即hundred thousand，直至“百万”（million）。则用“百万”的倍数表达；如“千万”是“十百万”，即ten million；“亿”是“百百万”，即hundred million，直至“十亿”（billion）。到“万”和“十万”时，都要变成“十 “百千”。千”、字，没有经过训练的人往往会出错，而数字译错很可能带来严重后果，因此应始终把数字口译作为一个重点训练项目。 2. 意译能力、应变能力培养意译能力实际上就是教给学生如何摆脱困境。没有经验的译员在遇到难点时，往往生硬地逐字直译，而不会采用意译的办法，其结果是尽管对方听到了英语，却不知所云，译员没有能够传达任何信息。随着我国政治、经济、科学、文化的迅速发展，几乎每天都有新的词汇和表达法出现，同时由于我国的特殊国情，许多新词和提法（如“超生游击队”、瑰”等）都没有相应的英语表达法，这就要求译员灵活地运用意译以适应客观形势的需要。必要设计出培养灵活意译能力的应变练习供师生课堂讨论，大家通过集思广益可以总结出一些灵活口译的方法，将来遇到类似困难时不至于紧张得不知所措。 3. 学会使用普通的小词、概括性强的词写作教学通常强调用词确切、具体，但口译教学却要培养学生熟练掌握运用一些根据性强以及搭配能力强的词，因为译员一时想不起来合适的词时，这类词能解决问题。比如，不会说pediatrician（儿科医生）或gynecologist（妇科医，可以用概括性强的doctor加生）上who specializes in treatingsick children以及who specializes in treatingwomen’s diseases等普通词来代替。懂，而且灵活、用处多。我们翻阅短语动词的词典，就知道 do、像be、 ake、get、go、单音节词和in、on、out、for、at、等介词或副词搭配连用，可以构成上千个不同的意思。用短语动词是口语体的特点。此外，还应注意学习掌握像achieve、搭配能力强的词，如achieve可以和success、 tion以及sustainable development等许多名词连用，expand可以和relation、trade、 ontact、名词连用。 4. 注意词的搭配由于受母语的影响，中国人常在词的搭配上出问题，比如大雨、不说成bigrain、 heavy/thick fog。 rain、说“我的家庭很简单”，译员不可译成：My family is very simple.而要说：My family is very small. 每个专题都有一些重点词汇，如education、 ctivity、 ation等关键词，掌握了这些词的搭配法，加上与某一专题有关的词汇和表达法后，再对有关专题进行口译时就可以比较自如了。 5. 区分同义词、近义词，尤其要区分在英语中不是同义词、却又译成同一个汉语词的那些英语单词或短语译员要做到表达确切，首先应能正确理解词汇和短语。省事，许多人往往愿意使用英汉词典，查阅时，又常常不认真阅读例句，这样就分不清同样译成“坚持”的insist on和persist in两类词的区别。如果培养了查阅英文词典的习惯，就能够避免许多类似的错误。词典告诉我们insist on多用于意见、主张，它的意思是state or declare forcefully，esp. when other people oppose or disbelieve one，例如：She kept insisting on herinnocence. 或demand（sth.）forcefully, not accepting arefusal，例如：I insist that you takeimmediate action. 而persistin多于用行动，它的意思是continue to do sth.，esp. in an obstinate anddetermined way and in spite of opposition，argument or failure，例如：We persist in reform and opening up. 因此，注意同义词、近义词的异同可以保证口译正确传达原意。

英文长单句的翻译技巧 2014-02-11 英文长单句的翻译技巧 2014-02-11 英语口译英文合同中使用的大量长句，主要分为三大类：简单长句、复合长句和并列长句。在翻译这些长句时，首先要正确理解各种相关成分的逻辑关系，然后再适当切分，理出句子的主干成分。最后再按汉语表达习惯，变动语序，重新组合。这样才能连贯、准确、清晰地予以表达。今天我们就先说一下简单长句和并列长句的翻译。简单长句及其翻译在翻译英文商务合同中的简单长句时，首先要正确理解各种相关成分的逻辑关系；然后再适当切分，理出句子的主干成分，翻译时以句子的主干为主导；最后再按汉语表达习惯，变动语序，重新组合。这样才能连贯、准确、清晰地予以表达。下面举三个简单长句翻译的例子来说明： 1．The Buyers may，within 15 days after arrival of the goods at the destination，lodge a claim against the sellers for short-weight being supported byInspection Certificate issued by a reputable public surveyor. 这是一个简单长句，其主干为The Buyers may…lodgea claim…。修饰谓语动词的状语有三个， a. 分别表示时间within 15 days after arrival of the goods at thedestination b. 方式being supported by Inspection Certificate issued by areputable public surveyor和 c. 目的for short-weight 而且状语中还有状语，作定语的分词issued还有自己的状语by a reputable publicsurveyor。众多状语，尽管在英语中的位置十分灵活，然而按照汉语的行文规范，方式状语一般应位于动词之前；而有些状语在译文中可以灵活处理，例如本句中的时间状语，可以提前至句首。因此，上句可译成：货物抵达目的港15天内，买方可以凭有信誉的公共检验员出示的检验证明向卖方提出短重索赔。 2. Within 30 days after the signingand coming into effect of this contract，the Buyer shall proceed to pay theprice for the goods to the Seller by opening an irrevocable L/C for the fullamount of USD30,000 in favor of the Seller through a bank at export port. 此句的主干为…the Buyer shall proceed topay the price…to the Seller，其中含有一个时间状语within 30 days after the signing and coming into effectof this contract。从语用的角度来看，商务合同中许多时间状语表示的是某一缔约方必须在何时何地承担某一义务和享有某一种权利，即时效性。因此整个句子的重心不是句子的动词，而是发生动作的时间。在译成中文时，为了突出行为的时效性，时间状语应尽量靠近表示义务责任的关键词“须”。此句中还含有一个较为复杂的方式状语byopening an irrevocable L/C…，其中含有三个介词短语作定语修饰an irrevocable L/C。按照汉语的行文规范，方式状语一般应位于动词之前。此外，若动词同时带有时间状语和方式状语时，英文的通常顺序是方式在前，时间在后，而汉语却正好与之相反，为方式在后，时间在前。因此本句可译成：买方须于本合同签字并生效后30天内通过出口地银行开立以卖方为收益人的不可撤销信用证支付全部货款计30000美元。 3. The Equipment and Material shallbe carefully and properly packed in the best and stable condition according tothe figures and characteristics of the Equipment and Material so as towithstand long-distance sea and inland transportation and numerous handlings. 此句的句子结构并不复杂但包含一个较为复杂的方式状语。从语用特征的角度来看，方式状语通常都是规定性的，其作用是规定合约方履行某项义务必须采取的方式或手段，在合同的语言环境下，即使有关缔约方履行了合同规定的义务，但若其履行义务的方式与合同规定的方式不符，乃构成违约。因此，方式状语的作用通常都是比较重要的。本句可译成：设备和原料须根据其形状和特点以完善而牢固的方式精心妥当地包装，包装须适合于长途海、陆运输，能经受多次装卸。并列长句及其翻译由于撰写合同时不能遗漏任何可能情况，所以英文商务合同中往往有大量并列成分。这些并列成分包括并列的词、短语以及从句。从语用角度看，并列的平行结构使合同的句式平衡，表意完整。在翻译由两个或两个以上的并列单句构成的复杂长句时可以采用分句译法。并列长句的分句之间的语义关系比较松散，因此翻译时可以断开，分解成单句独立存在。例如： The Buyer shall have the right toclaim against the Seller for compensation of losses within 60 days afterarrival of the goods at the port of destination，should the quality of the goods befound not in conformity with the specifications stipulated in the Contractafter re-inspection by the China Commodity Inspection Bureau and the Buyershall have the right to claim against the Sellers for compensation ofshort-weight within 60 days after arrival of the goods at the port of destination，should the weight be found not in conformity with that stipulated in theBill of Lading after re-inspection by the CCIB. 此句由两个结构相同的并列分句组成，均为主句在前，条件状语在后，在两个条件状语中均含有时间状语，此外，两个并列分句中也都含有时间状语，均为within 60 days after arrival of the goods at theport of destination，译成中文时，条件状语应分别置于主句之前，而所有的时间状语均放在各自修饰的动词的前面。同时，为了符合汉语句式较短的特点，可以将两个并列分句断开，分解成两个单句，即译成：若货物经中国商品检验局复检后发现质量与本合同之规定不符，买方有权于货物抵达目的港后的60天内向卖方提出索赔。若经中国商品检验局复检发现货物质量与提单所示重量不符，买方有权于货物抵达目的港后的60天内向卖方提出短重索赔。
