Hatshepsut was born around 1500 BC and became one of the first female rulers ever. The temple is built on three terraced levels. A forgotten world is what we tourists encounter when we visit the ancient pharaonic monumnets. The walls of the temples, the tombs are full with inscriptions but except a few initiates, they are silent to us. The world of the ancient egyptians is lost and forgotten forever, what we see today are only glimpses of it.This photo shows the southern part of the first court in the mortuary temple of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu, West Thebes.This place was the theatrical setting for the appearance of the king. Just beside the wall to the left is the temple palace and it faced into the temple forecourt it possessed a formal balcony, the "Windows of Appearance" senn to the left. This was the setting for a reward ceremony a kind of gift-giving to courtiers and high officials. Just below the window are representations of sculptured heads of foreign captives. To the left edge of the picture are scenes of the king smiting the enemies. The wall relief in the centre of the picture depicts the king in big scale accompaniated by fanbearers and a priest with a censer entering to attend the Valley Festival.
