1What is Can Can Bunny Extra? Its a Eroge (erotic game) visual novel created of the by Cocktail Soft in 1993, the story is about a guy that can't get a girlfriend so a Goddess comes to help him out by granting him the power to get seven beautiful women to fall in love with him.

2 Its important to note that Can Can Bunny Extra released three years before FFVII and it was a popular visual novel in Japan when it released not to mention that the Can Can bunny series is considered a classic VN series, later due to popularity it got an anime adaptation in 1996.

3 The first piece of connection comes from an interview in the Rebirth Ultimania in which the interviewer asked about the Tifa kiss to Toriyama and Nojima, most of us know about what they said in regards to Tifa's date but at the end Nojima mentioned something that serves as the base for this whole analysis and that was that it reminded him when he used to play dating sim 30 years ago, Can Can Bunny Extra released in 1993 and this interview was most likely done around 2023 or early 2024 which would mean that by this time CCB would be 30-31 years old.

4 This is no mere coincidence and Nojima’s comment only came after being asked in regards to Tifa’s date, to be more specific, the kiss. For now just remember that Can Can bunny released 30 years ago, almost 4 years before FFVII and that Nojima played dating sims around this time.

5 The first parallel I want to mention here is the most obvious one and it's the design similarities between Tifa and Misao, during her iconic disco scene Misao uses a white crop top, black mini skirt and red shoes. If we compare it to Tifa then her original design is extremely similar to the one Misao has and her costume has the exact same color palette as her.

6 Another parallel would be the fact that Misao has a fight scene with a “older woman" type of character, she even calls her 年増オンナ(女) (older woman) which is the same line Tifa uses during the slap fight against Scarlet.
In this fight we even see Misao throwing kicks at her.

Its also worth mentioning that when Tifa was first revealed she had almost the exact same measurements as Misao. Tifa's: Bust 83, Waist 57, Hips 84. Misao's: Bust 82, Waist 56, Hips 83. The only difference between the two is the fact that all of Tifa's have one more point compared to Misao's otherwise they would be identical, yet is too much of a coincidence that they are this similar. This was like I said when Tifa got confirmed as the "6th Nakama" aka the first showing of the character to the public, this latter got changed.

8 Tifa's current measurements are: Bust 92, Waist 60, Hips 88. Its also worth mentioning that Tifa is the only character in VII to have her official measurements revealed and its the only "heroine" in the series to have this info officially available to everyone.

10 This last part makes it pretty obvious that the developers knew about Tifa's design origin, Nomura in particularly mentioned during an old interview that every character had a defining feature in Tifa's case it was her breast and she was even named "boing chan" on the debug files, which is pretty significant all things considered since it gives the impression that Tifa’s character original intent besides being a caring figure for the team was to provide fan service, she even got a cutscene added in the game with the purpose to show her assets.

11 But what does this mean for FFVII as a whole? I think the most obvious thing would be that Tifa's route was intended to give dating options to the players and provide fan service, we know this because Aerith was initially the sole heroine of the game and they latter added Tifa as a playable character and a love interest for Cloud, despite the name and constant design/story change the character of Aerith went through, she was always meant to be the love interest and the main heroine of the game which was consistent up until the end.

12 Just like in the anime adaptation of Can Can Bunny the protagonist can have "romances" with his love interests, but there is always a intended route a “canon” if you will, in CCB the protagonist realized after romancing all the girls that the one he loved was always there for him as she was the magical goddess who gave him the chance to have this "adventure" and have these experiences, it doesn't matter who he "romanced" along; the intended route was clear since the beginning and the other girls were there just to provide options to the players.

13 FFVII despite having another romantic option makes it clear by the end who the intended choice was and its even confirmed in additional material that the optional (Tifa) route is not canon because of the lack of relationship upgrade and romantic confirmation in the sequels.

14 Also the “player Cloud” is only an “issue” that happens if the player chooses to pursue Tifa’s route, on the other hand Aerith’s route is consistent with her as the sole romance option and keeps the love triangle shenanigans to the minimum as opposed to Tifa’s route.
