I am truly devastated by what is happening to the lions of Masai Mara. A huge thanks to my Tanzanian guides who updated me on this heartbreaking case on 3 Feb 2025.
This time, it was an intruder from the Tanzanian border who entered Kenya and poisoned the lions of Mara on 02 Feb 2025. Fortunately, he has been arrested and is in custody. But the damage is done—one male lion is confirmed dead, several lions and lionesses are suffering, and over 30 spotted hyenas have died from poisoning. This horrific act took place in the Sand River Area.
Based on location details shared by my Tanzanian sources, I fear we have lost one of the Sopa Boys (Mandevu2 / Oldrop / Lentim / Lenchada). This is yet another tragic blow. Sadly, this isn’t new—Tanzanian herders have crossed into Kenya before and killed lions. The father of the current Sopa Boys suffered the same fate. I still remember I saw them as cubs back in 2021.
It is truly disheartening to see people on social media attacking my cause and threatening more lions instead of addressing the real issue. This clearly shows the suffering within communities—people are not getting what they deserve, and lions are paying the price. I beg the Maasai community—please do not kill lions. Your fight should be against governance and policies, not against wildlife.
I see a fall in unity, but I am not giving up. We will fight for justice.
