It's all down to the Input Color Profile which by default it's sRGB so if you connect some color to a scalar (non color) parameter like roughness you need to make sure your color is linear thus the reverse gamma but be advised that gamma 2.2 != sRGB in the lower grays so you might have visual differences. If you want to keep your workflow properly linear use a linear workflow and a linear ICP, that's the correct way as it won't require any gamma corrections from colors 2 scalars.
