I have often thought about how our actions and inactions can have far-reaching effects on our world, and on each other. The products we purchase... every little thing... the people we vote for in elections, the times we speak out --- and don't speak out --- against injustice, and so on... everything we do and don't do has some impact on the world. This idea was the inspiration for this song. And it burned within me for a long time to find some way to express this concept musically and lyrically. So with the creation and completion of "Cause and Effect", I felt a great sense of accomplishment. I still feel that this is one of the most important songs I have ever written and composed, which is why it remains on the home page for downloading... In this world, where our government leaders are making monstrous decisions in the name of the people --- in the name of "democracy" --- I can only hope the message in this song will further contribute to the chorus of people calling for a peaceful and compassionate world.
