Top 10 point guards
1.Marcus Paige (North Carolina)
Size: 6-1, 175 pounds
Class: Senior
Stats: 14.1 ppg, 4.5 apg
Only 24 days after the Tar Heels’ final game of the 2014-15 season, Paige was having bone spurs surgically removed from his right ankle. So if you want to know why he regressed as a junior, that’s as good an answer as any. He went from shooting 44 percent as a sophomore down to 41.3, and he shot fewer free throws; he was not the same player.
There still is some question how frequently Paige will be deployed as a point guard; the Heels have a couple able players at that position and still a fairly significant hole at shooting guard that he often seems best qualified to fill. But Paige is best, and the Heels are best, when he has the ball and the freedom to make a play for himself or a teammate. 2.Kris Dunn (Providence)
Size: 6-4, 220 pounds
Class: Junior
Stats: 15.6 ppg, 7.5 apg
Dunn is the best pure playmaker in college basketball and probably the top NBA prospect at this position. He shared the Big East’s Player of the Year award last season (and was one of those rare perimeter players singled out for Defensive Player of the Year honors.) The question for Dunn is whether he’ll be able to excel in the same way as the Friars replace so many important players from last season’s capable squad, which lost in the NCAA Round of 64 to Dayton. LaDontae Henton, Carson Derosiers and Tyler Harris averaged a combined 36.3 points; who will be the target of Dunn’s passes this time around? Let’s be frank about this: It’s not often a player makes All-American from a non-tournament team. 5.Yogi Ferrell (Indiana)
Size: 6-0, 178 pounds
Class: Senior
Stats: 16.3 ppg, 4.9 apg
Ferrell has played so much college basketball, 102 games over his first three seasons at IU, scoring 1,379 points and passing for 438 assists and reaching the NCAA Tournament twice.
He made 41.6 percent of his 3-point attempts last season and committed only one turnover for every 2.6 assists. But he can get better. Indiana’s defense was horrible last season (ranked 214th in Division I) and Ferrell was a part of that as the player guarding the basketball at the point of attack. With IU having added a 6-10 center in freshman Thomas Bryant, Ferrell will be able to apply more pressure without as much fear that any player getting beyond him will find an immediate layup. He has the strength, quickness and toughness to be a first-rate defender.（同样三年入榜， Ferrell 的成长也不如预期）

6.Melo Trimble (Maryland)
Size: 6-3, 185 pounds
Class: Sophomore
Stats: 16.2 ppg, 3.0 apg
Trimble had such an outstanding freshman year, and he led Maryland to such a remarkable breakthrough season, it became easy to overlook some of the cracks in his performance. Melo committed 86 turnovers, not horrible for a player who so often had the ball in his hands. But after West Virginia hounded his handle in the Terps’ Round of 32 NCAA Tournament loss, and he was so loose with the ball at the Pan-American Games that he lost his spot in the U.S. rotation, it became clear Trimble must improve in that category and as a passer to become genuinely great. As it stands, he excels at generating free throw points and 3-point baskets. As Maryland stacks more talent around him — none of those fine players a secondary playmaker like Dez Wells — Trimble will need to generate more chances for his teammates for Maryland to become a genuine NCAA title contender.(作为上赛季仅有的几个给球队带来突破性变化的菜鸟，第六的位置实在有点低，新赛季Trimble带领的Maryland将成为冠军热门)

7.Tyler Ulis (Kentucky)
Size: 5-9, 160 pounds
Class: Sophomore
Stats: 5.6 ppg, 3.6 apg
The only bad thing you can say about Ulis as a point guard, as a basketball player, is the obvious: He’s little. That’s a problem at times, such as in the national semifinals against Wisconsin, when the Badgers’ uncommon height made it tough for coach John Calipari to keep Ulis on the floor. There wasn’t anyone for Ulis to guard. However, Ulis is one of the most dangerous and versatile offensive players at this position. He’s difficult to contain because of his quickness, blessed with exceptional vision and so adept at long-range shooting that defenders can’t contain him simply by backing away. He will have plenty of help with the ballhandling duties, given that Kentucky also will play point guards at both shooting guard (Isaiah Briscoe) and small forward (Jamal Murray). But it will be Ulis’ team.

8.Ty Wallace (California)
Size: 6-5, 205 pounds
Class: Senior
Stats: 17.1 ppg, 4.0 apg
He played a ton of minutes and scored a bunch of points and passed for loads of assists, all of which were important, but there were times during Wallace’s junior year when this seemed not to make much of a difference. Despite a lineup that included several players that other colleges would have loved to have on their rosters, Cal just wasn’t very good. It might have been the absence of quality supporting players to aid Wallace, Jabari Bird and Jordan Mathews. The recruitment of freshmen Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb removes that excuse. So now Wallace has to do more than produce; he has to lead. Stats are nice, but that’s not really the object of the game.

9.Frank Mason (Kansas)
Size: 5-11, 185 pounds
Class: Junior
Stats: 12.6 ppg, 3.9 apg
Recruited with the idea he’d make a great career backup, Mason became an outstanding two-way point – and a starter – in only his second season. He was an enormous reason Kansas managed to extend its string of consecutive Big 12 championships when almost nothing on the roster really fit together. Mason defends the ball and he gets it where it needs to go. Last season, where it needed to go wasn’t always clear. But these Jayhawks should have better role definition and allow Mason to be more of a pass-first playmaker.

10.Cat Barber (N.C. State)
Size: 6-2, 180 pounds
Class: Junior
Stats: 12.1 ppg, 3.7 apg
There has been an uncomfortable degree of looseness to Barber’s game; 2.1 turnovers per game is a lot, especially for a player who is not cancelling out that figure with an overabundance of assists. But Barber’s ability to penetrate defenses coupled with his above-average shooting touch make him a dangerous player to dismiss. No doubt Iowa State’s Monte Morris is steadier, and Villanova’s Jalen Brunson is more promising, and both A.J. English of Iona and Jalan West of Northwestern State are more productive. But Barber with the ball in his hands and the game on the line is a frightening sight for a defender; it’s impossible to know what he’ll do, because he can do so much.

2.Caris LeVert (Michigan)
Size: 6-7, 205 pounds
Class: Senior
Stats: 14.9 ppg, 4.9 apg
LeVert’s junior season wasn’t quite what it was supposed to be, starting with the fact it lasted only 18 games. His season ended because of a foot injury, but before that he struggled a bit to manage the massive defensive attention directed his way as the Wolverines’ other, younger players developed. His 2-point field goal shooting dipped to 43.0 percent; that was the most obvious flaw. But he also improved his assists total, shot more often from the foul line and maintained his dangerous 3-point touch. While he was absent, his teammates did develop, which should help make LeVert’s final college season that much more productive – and rewarding.（LeVert上赛季遭受伤病袭击，另外他的投篮命中率有所下降）

3.Buddy Hield (Oklahoma)
Size: 6-4, 214 pounds
Class: Senior
Stats: 17.4 ppg, 5.4 apg
Buddy Hield is very good. It’s such a safe thing to say. He’s the ultimate in there-every-night, and that’s not easy to do when you rely as much on long-distance shooting as he does. Hield endured only three single-figure scoring games as a junior even though 52 percent of his field goal attempts came from 3-point range. Do you realize how hard that is? Because Oklahoma’s offense is so 3-point-oriented, and because Hield is option No. 1 in that attack, he essentially does not have the luxury of a tough shooting night. So he shows up every game and makes shots. He hit a 3-pointer in every game last season save an 0-for-7 against Baylor. He made at least two in 27 of his 35 games. And even though he relies so much on threes, he still hit nearly 47 percent of his 2-pointers and attempted 130 free throws. So very good.（Oklahoma的主要进攻方式三分点依仗于Hield）

4.Malcolm Brogdon (Virginia)
Size: 6-5, 215 pounds
Class: Senior
Stats: 14.0 ppg, 2.4 rpg
Brogdon is known primarily for his defense, because that’s how it goes when you play at Virginia – and because Brogdon is really, really good at defense. With his size and length and his determination, and with UVa coach Tony Bennett’s scheme, Brogdon is just a total pain for opposing scorers to encounter. Brogdon does not do his work in the flashiest manner. He had only 24 steals last season and 14 blocks. And yet he was the No. 2 vote-getter for the ACC’s All-Defensive team. Hey, if the media know you can guard even without some stats to back up that position, well, that says a ton. If he’s to climb this high among shooting guards (and convince some NBA scouts) it would help if he made more shots. He hit 39 percent from long range over the final three weeks last season. 5.Malik Newman (Mississippi State)
Size: 6-5, 215 pounds
Class: Freshman
Stats: 29.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg* (high school)
How exactly will new coach Ben Howland use Newman? It will be so interesting to watch given that so many (mistakenly) believe Howland suppresses players’ offensive talents. It’s possible the only way to accomplish this with Newman is to leave him on the bench. Newman is going to shoot, and he probably is going to score. It would be no surprise at all if he scored more points than any freshman in the nation. On a USA Basketball team that lacked a true point guard, Newman filled the position at the 2014 FIBA U-17 World Championships and basically just ran off screens and scored. He led the team in assists, but only got three per game. He got to the basket and shot from deep. What he’ll need to do better for Howland, aside from defense, is to assure he does not waste the numerous opportunities he’ll earn at the foul line with his sudden, dynamic drives.
