If “Still” was all about intimate tension, then “Alone” is all about romantic tension. Romantic tension is a combination of strong emotions, attraction, and internal & external conflict. It’s not one component on it’s own. It’s everything together.

Daryl: The signs are all there. You just gotta know how to read ‘em.

The first time we see Daryl and Beth, Daryl is giving Beth another lesson in tracking. This is not the first lesson. This is the Daryl Dixon advanced course. Beth’s already learned how to hold, aim and shoot the crossbow, how to approach prey stealthily, and has a decent handle on tracking. Daryl is comfortable hanging back and letting her take the lead. He has a confidence in her to figure out what she’s tracking and where she’s tracking it to.

There’s an unconscious behavioral tick Daryl has in this episode of rubbing his chin when he’s looking at or talking to Beth. He does it in “Still,” and he does it in, at least, two scenes of “Alone.” The first time is during their tracking lesson, as he stands behind her and makes his little joke about them tracking a drunk. Behaviorists say that any fussy, preening gesture, like rubbing one’s chin whiskers, suggests that somewhere in his mind, he’s wishing he was touching you or you were touching him. We have to take into consideration that there was a lot of touching going on when Daryl was first teaching Beth how to use the crossbow, and may now associate these lessons with that physical contact. But he does do it again, later, and it’s much more telling, so keep your eyes open.
达里尔在这集里有一个下意识地小动作——看着或者和贝丝说话时都会搓下巴。在「Still」里也这么做了，在「Alone」里至少做了两次。第一次是追踪课上，他站在她身后，开了个追踪醉汉的小玩笑。行为学家说任何繁琐的、得意洋洋的手势，诸如摩擦自己下巴的胡渣，表明他脑中的某一块想要碰碰你或者你去动动他。我们得想一下，在达里尔第一次教贝丝用十字弩的时候，他们必然有许多触碰，这些肢体接触可能伴随着课程的进行一起发生。但他确实又做了一次，之后还更加明显，所以，要睁大你们的眼睛哦。

Beth: It’s a walker.
Daryl: Maybe it’s a drunk.
Beth: I’m gettin’ good at this. Pretty soon I won’t need you at all.
Daryl: Yeah. Keep on trackin’. (What he means: Yeah, joke around. You’ll always need me, Beth Greene.)

Let’s clear the air. Beth is joking with him, and he knows that. They’re comfortable with each other, now; they’re playful. She doesn’t mean it as in, “I won’t need you,” she just means it in the subject of tracking and hunting. She’s finally getting the hang of it and she’s excited that Daryl won’t have to constantly be instructing her in order for her to be successful. She can hunt and track right alongside him, and that’s a big deal for her. She finally feels like she’s equipped to survive thanks to him. He has faith in her to do this herself. He’s just there as back-up if she needs him.

When Beth’s foot gets snared and she falls, her training shows. She nearly lands a full-on headshot from a sitting position, while under duress, and seeing a walker ambling towards her. Daryl is quick to react, though, taking the walker down before sliding in to free Beth’s foot with a strong sense of urgency.
当贝丝的脚陷入网罗，摔在地上时，她的训练初显成效。她坐着，被迫朝那只慢慢走来的行尸射去，还几乎射中了它的头。达里尔则迅速做出反应，干掉行尸之后非常急切地冲到贝丝身边帮她松开机关。
Daryl: Can you move it? (What he means: Holy crap, are you okay?!)
Beth: Yeah.

There are two kinds of touch that happen in this scene between them, and they happen in rapid succession. The first is ultimately out of concern and care. He’s cradling her foot in his hand, he’s watching her face, trying to read if she’s truly okay. He inches his body closer to her. He’s letting her know that he’s there, he has her. After she says, “Yeah,” he changes to a more exploratory touch, testing her ankle to see for himself how injured it is. We’ve seen that any injury can slow you down in this world, and Daryl said it himself, it’s always the same, sooner or later you run. His one goal now is to get Beth somewhere safe and off that ankle.
