Blue Lasers – The Future is Bright
The human retina contains approximately 120 million rods and only 6 million cone receptors, which, when stimulated by light, send signals to the brain. These signals are subsequently interpreted as vision. Rods and cones are not equally sensitive to visible wavelengths of light. Unlike the cones, rods are more sensitive to blue light and are not sensitive to wavelengths greater than 640 nm, the red fraction of the visible spectrum. If the human's eye is exposed to less light than normal, the reception changes from photopic to scotopic sight and this increases the eyes sensitivity to blue light by a factor of 10 or more. The APOLLOblue and the TAURUSblue lasers are by far the brightest lasers for use in the dimmed environment of the CT suite or Linac vault. Brighter lines mean improved visibility and more accurate patient setups.

The APOLLOblue and the TAURUSblue lasers penetrate the skin less than other longer wavelengths. This provides for less scattering and less diffuse reflections. Less diffusion and less scatter mean a finer more accurate line projected on to the patient's skin making them ideal for today's high precision IMRT, IGRT, SRS, and ARC therapies.
