50 FACTS ABOUT STEPHEN 1.) Whilst on tour with Boyzone, he was always getting into trouble with security because he always wandered off by himself. He was often found outside talking to the fans. 2.) He was once "spiced" by the Spice Girls. When the girls met Boyzone for the first time on Mikey's birthday in Germany in 1996, they chose to pester Stephen. They made him say, "Don't sweat it honey" in an American accent and they wouldn't leave him alone until they did so. As the girls say, "he was so embarrassed, his face went purple!!" 3.) Speaking of the Spice Girls, Stephen once turned them down for a date. As he says, "I was meant to go out with them, but I was in bed when they rang me so I didn't bother. Well, I was half asleep and it was really late when they phoned. I had to get up early the next day too. I'm going out with them soon though. I said I'd give them a call so we can sort something out." Stephen is, presumably, the only man in the world who wouldn't get out of bed for the Spice Girls!! 4.) Smash Hits Magazine once dubbed him 'Monkey Chops'. No not because he likes banana's- but because they think he looks like a monkey!! 5.) Once when he was in London, he met Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber at a gala performance of "Jesus Christ Superstar". Stephen was then invited back to Andrew's stately home for tea where he suggested that Stephen should take over the lead role in "Joseph And His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat"!! A suggestion that, 5 years later, would become a relaity! 6.) Stephen is always hiccupping. He has a loose nerve which causes a reaction whenever he drinks anything hot or cold, therefore making him hiccup. 7.) His ambition is to buy the mansion next door to Bono from U2. 8.) He says that his most embarrassing moment was when he dropped the collection plate in Church one Sunday when he was 12. He says, "I somehow managed to tip the plate and the money spilled everywhere. It made a terrible noise, clattering all over the floor, and the Church was completely quiet apart from that. I had to get down on my hands and knees and crawl around, picking up loose change. I felt as though everyone in the whole place, including the priest, was watching me to make sure I didn't pocket any of the money. It was awful." 9.) Stephen had a stalker whilst in Boyzone, who had been a fan of Stephen's since the band first started. She followed Stephen everywhere, although Ronan described her as being "very nice"!! So, when does somebody stop being a fan and start being a stalker? Stephen says, "It's a question of respect. As a fan you can enjoy being around a person- but you can't do that 24 hours a day because everyone needs time to themselves. If a fan stalked me they wouldn't respect my privacy and I wouldn't respect them. . . Yes, I have had to take one person aside and tell them they were going way too far." 10.) On the sleeve notes of every Boyzone album, Stephen always ends his messages to loved ones by saying MTBT- it means 'Many Thanks For Being There'. 11.) Did you know that he likes holding hands with people when he's talking to them?? He also tells people that he loves them all the time in the middle of conversations. He says, "It's really funny. They don't know what to say!!" 

12.) When Keith and Lisa got married In Las Vegas, Ronan and Stephen sang R Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" at the end of the ceremony. 13.) "Don't Stop Looking For Love" on Boyzone's second album was rejected by Mariah Carey because she couldn't reach such high notes!! Luckily, Stephen could and sings lead vocals on the song which has become a favourite with the fans. 14.) Stephen is allegedly allergic to tinsel (as in the Christmas kind)!! Yes, really!! 15.) Stephen is lusted after by many female celebrity's. Maxine and Leanne from Coronation Street, Destiny's Child, Madonna, Denise Van Outen, the girls from Steps, Baby Spice, Geri Halliwell, Mandy Smith and Mandy from Emmerdale have all admitted to fancying Mr cutey-pie. In fact, Louis Walsh says that "loads of girls fancy him". Well, is that really a big surprise?? 16.) Smash Hits Magazine invented the phrase "I've been Gatelied". This is taken to mean that you are obssessed by Disney and/or have sadly fallen in love with a Disney character. The phrases "I'm all Guccied down" and "Shop on!!" were also invented by the same magazine because of Stephen's love for Gucci and shopping. 17.) Steve was once in such a hurry that when he left his hotel room he had forgotten to put any underwear on. When he passed a chambermaid, she looked really shocked. He then realised that he had forgotten to do his flies up too and so it was ALL on show!! Wish I'd been that girl!! 18.) Stephen is very spiritual and enjoys doing transcendental meditation and chakra healing. 19.) When Stephen admitted that he is gay, he received a telephone call from George Michael, a letter from Graham Norton and a bouquet of flowers from Elton John and his partner David Furnish. 20.) If he wasn't performing, Stephen would have liked to open a sweet factory so that he could eat jelly tots and smarties all day!! 21.) Whilst dancing on stage at The Point Depot in Dublin, Stephen's trousers split, exposing his white underpants to the whole audience!! Boyzone's stylist Alex Delves then tried to superglue the trousers back together but ended up getting his hands stuck!! Stephen nearly had to go back on stage with Alex stuck to his trousers!! 22.) Stephen claims that a ghost followed him and his family when they moved houses. He says, "it followed us from our old house to our new one. It lives in my mum's bedroom and keeps turning the hairdryer on and off. It even throws things round the room. Once, my brother asked my dad for a light and the lighter flew off the wardrobe. We had to get a priest in to bless the house. I'm still scared of going into my mum's room so, whenever I have to, I run in and out as fast as I can". 23.) Stephen's top tip: "If you want to get rid of hiccups, hold a couple of ice cubes either side of your neck. Sounds strange, but it works". 24.) At the Red Nose Awards 1997, a very merry Ronan and Stephen, clutching a bottle of champagne, bundled the Live And Kicking Magazine posse into a lift at the end of the aftershow party and started jumping up and down to make it go faster!! 

25.) But, word of warning. Don't EVER get Stephen drunk. Whenever he drinks too much, he goes around hugging everybody and telling them that he loves them!! In fact, he got so drunk on his 21st birthday in Argentina that Shane had to accompany Stephen to Boyzone's TV and magazine interviews the next day and answer for him!! 26.) Stephen spent a lot of time dancing with the Duchess of York at the White Tie and Tiara Ball 2003. Onlookers say that she couldn't keep up with him! 27.) Stephen would love to do a duet with Kylie Minogue. He says that it could be a huge success because of "the gay thing". 28.) Stephen has had many acting offers over the years. David Hasselhoff wanted him to play an Irish teenager in "Baywatch", he was offered the part of another Irish teenager in "Mrs Brown's Boys" starring Bette Midler and was also offered films with Daniel Day Lewis and Danny Devito. But, because of his commitments at the time to Boyzone, he was unable to fulfil his life-long ambition. 29.) Stephen wrote a song called Where Do We go for Westlife. Although the band were keen to record it, Stephen decided to keep it for his own album instead! 30.) During rehearsals for Boyzone's UK Winter Tour 1998, Stephen fell from a moving lift used during the show. He fell unconscious just hours before the boyz were due on stage in Bournmouth. Luckily, after a 20 minute examination, the doctor gave him the all-clear and the show went ahead. What a trouper. . . 31.) Stephen's a massive fan of American sitcoms "Friends" and "Will & Grace". 32.) Many people think that Stephen is more like Phoebe than any other Friends character. 33.) He has also been likened to Father Dougal from "Father Ted" and was voted the member of Boyzone most like Mr Bean by the rest of the lads. Bless. . . 34.) Stephen spends most of his life on his mobile phone chatting to his family and friends. He once notched up a phone bill for ￡1000. For 1 month!! 35.) Stephen on buying a wedding present for Posh Spice and David Beckham: "I'd buy them a hot air balloon so they could soar up, up and away from the Paparazzi, eating sandwiches and drinking champagne as they flew". 36.) Did you know that Stephen thinks he's ugly?? He says that he doesn't see himself as an attractive looking person and can't understand why girls people fancy him. Yeah right!! 37.) The rest of the lads nicknamed him Homeboy because when he was on tour he used to get homesick, pining for his family. Awwww. . . 38.) He's very good friends with Sir Elton John and David Furnish. The press say that Elton treats Stephen like a adopted son. 39.) Allison Maund, editor of Boyzone Magazine, claims that Stephen puts far too much salt on his food (!!). 40.) Stephen's sister Michelle has said that whenever they meet up, she always has to bring her children with them so that Stephen can play with him. Stephen loves his niece and nephews so much, that he can often be found with them at the zoo in Dublin. Not for his own pleasure, of course!! 41.) On a Boyzone promotional trip to the USA, Stephen got lost in New York's massive Disney Store!! Shane and Ronan left him for a second and when they came back, he had vanished!! He finally reappeared 2 hours later and then they had to dash across The Big Apple in time for a radio interview!! The store was so big and Stephen is so small that he got lost amongst the toys. 

42.) On the same promotional trip, this time in Miami, Stephen had to go to hospital. No, don't worry, he wasn't hurt!! The bands stylist, Alex Delves, jumped into a swimming pool and somehow managed to cut his foot open. Stephen volunteered to go with him and says that the experience was just like being on the set of E.R!! 43.) Stephen believes that he has a Guardian Angel called No Days who watches over him and guides his career. Spooky!! 44.) His mum and dad are so proud of him that they've got posters of him all over the house. But Stephen reckons it's "cheap wallpaper". 45.) Stephen's not only actor, singer, dancer, model, presenter, member of Boyzone and all-round nice guy, but he's a poet too!! He wrote a poem called "Death Of An Angel" when he was really young. Apparently, it was written about his nanny who died. 46.) Stephen has said that he normally goes out with people who are a bit older than him, with brown hair and brown eyes. 47.) Boyzone once dressed up as the Spice Girls for Live And Kicking and they wanted Stephen to be Baby. But, Stephen says, "I looked at the dress and blonde wig they wanted me to wear and thought, 'hmm, I think I'll be Sporty'!!" Well, I think Stephen would look good in a dress!! It worked wonders for David Beckham anyway!! 48.) Stephen once got so depressed that he used to go home at night and lock himself away. Once, the rest of the lads were so worried that they kicked his hotel door down. His depression lasted for 18 months as a result of fame and the strain of hiding his sexuality. 49.) Stephen started doing acupuncture to relieve the stress. He would have 8 needles stuck in once a month. But he says that he won't need that as much now because he isn't as stressed out. He also reads many spiritual books. His favourite is "Conversations With God". 50.) When Stephen was younger, he was so poor that he couldn't afford to buy tickets to pop concerts. So, him and a group of his friends would buy 1 ticket between them and then when the doors were opened to let that person in, the whole group would barge in!! Whoever didn't get caught then stayed for the concert!! Stephen got caught a few times, but the first time they tried the stunt was at MC Hammer and Stephen didn't get caught!! This was his first ever pop concert.
