Tonight's guest is an outstanding performer, a great songwriter and a large Swedish popsensation. He knows all about the fans who camp outside his home. A big applause for Darin!
Welcome!
-Thank You
Have any of them (from the audience) camped outside your home?
- I don’t know. Have you?
A friend who had camped - fans used to give them food. Do you feed your fans?
- Mom let in some, when they needed to go to the bathroom.
Your mom is also here tonight.
-Yes. Hi, Mom.
Glad you're here.
When I was a kid, I listened on Radio Luxemburg and Kvällstoppen. You grew up with MTV, right?
-I danced to Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Madonna and wished that it was me.
(video)
Absolutely fantastic. Did you like Madonna right away?
-I was very impressed with the video to "Like a prayer".
Did you know what you would be then?
-Yes. I knew what I wanted to be.
What did you see in front of you?
-I wanted to especially sing.
Sings someone else in your family?
-My parents. And many in the family play music. My uncles played both classical and pop.
Was it very different music than MTV at home?
-One of my uncles listened to Gypsy Kings and Mariah Carey. He used to play, and I sang.
When did your parents came to this country?
-1980th they fled from the war between Iraq and Iran. It was very tough for them. It feels unreal when you are born and raised here. When my dad talks about when he was in the war - It feels crazy that exist. That even exists today.
I understand.
They came to Sweden 30 years ago, to the airport. Now is this image at Arlanda. Who's that next to you?
-It is Carola.
But you come first.
-It depends on where you come from (which side).
You come from here.
-No, from there.
How do you feel when you walk past it? Do you go pretty slow?
-Well, I take a picture every time.
It's great to collect the images.
Do you remember the first song you wrote?
-I was 13-14 years old. "How did it come to this" it was called.
Can you sing or play it?
(singing)
-It was a hit at school. My friends sang it.
A hit at school?
-Yes, exactly.
What was the first song that made you feel, "Wow, can the music be like this"?
-Some by Richard Marx songs. Perhaps "Now and forever".
"Now and forever"? Sing the first phrase. Which tone is it?
-Perhaps G.
Should we try?
-Yes!
(singing)
Nicely!
-Richard Marx is one of many of mine favorite artist.

Little nice ballad
-I like ballads.
But who was your very, very biggest idol?
-Michael Jackson. And Whitney Houston, but Michael was the favorite.
Do you remember when Michael Jackson came into your life?
-My mother had recorded "Bad" and "Remember the Time" on videotape. I was probably 6-7 years old approximately. I found the tape and wanted to see it over and over again. Over time I became interested in music and bought his album.
How has he influenced you?
-He is one of the artists who have inspired me most musically.
We will shortly play a song that I like very much. This is special. How did "Money for nothing" 'came to life'?
-It was my first single.
Tell me who wrote it.
-Robyn wrote it with the Danish songwriter Remee. It was very big for me.
This may be sensitive - but I want to talk about "Idol" and what happens there. Is it hard to talk about "Idol"?
-No, not at all. There is nothing to be ashamed of. I am glad that I was in the program and got to show what I can.
Many old participants don't want to be associated with "Idol." Why is it so?
-They don't see it as "kreddigt" ('as good as it is')
But everyone knows anyway that you have been in "Idol".
-I think it was a good way.
Is it hard to go through a competition of this type - and still maintain your own expression? Or do you lose yourself?
-It's not just artists in "Idol". It happens a lot when you work with music. The most important thing is to have your feet on earth and be yourself.
Is there a risk that the feet lift? Was it close to you sometime?
-No, I had very good people around me from the beginning. Both management and record company people really cared about me. They wished me well, and I was lucky. I stand my old friends, and my family close.
Why did you apply to Idol?
-I saw the commercial. Then I saw the American version and thought it was a good chance. I didn't think I would go that far.
How far did you go?
-I came second.
How does it feel when you came in second place?
-It's very up haussat.
Were you disappointed?
-Yes, but I got my record deal, the day after.
Did you realize that your career wasn't over?
-The future was uncertain, but I was happy to devote myself to music. Then it went fast. I got the producers I wanted to work with since I was little. It was crazy to sit in the studio with them. For example, Jörgen Elofsson. He has written "Why does it rain" and "Who's that girl".
We'll come back to the producers. I am incredibly envious. How old were you then?
-17.
You are 17 years old and famous, has fans and earn a lot of money. What happened to you then?
-I wasn't thinking so much of it, I just drove on and worked hard. I wanted it so much and felt I MUST succeed. It worked enough, because I wanted ("love/burn") it so much. I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the type of music.

We're going to play a song again. We'll play ' Lovekiller '. Do you want to say something about it? No, we can take it afterwards.
(singing)
It's not a happy text. Had you been dumped?
-No, I wanted to write something like that. I wrote it with Tony Nilsson, who also wrote "You're out of my life".
What did you see in front of you?
-I was inspired by the strings. It was cinematic. I wanted a mysterious and "rough" text.
Do you write often about yourself or do you think in images?
-Sometimes I write about myself. Sometimes I write about images I have in my head. The music gives a story in my head.
Do you write the music first?
-Yes
How do you write music, then?
-I usually play chords.
Go ahead...
-Okay, I take my favorite chords. This song I like very much. If we just play ...
(playing on the keybord / singing)
Good chords.
-It's my favorite.
Can you write about happiness?
-It's difficult. I find it easier to write sad lyrics, and I like the moll. All strive to be happy - but everyone likes almost only sad songs.
Why don't you write in Swedish?
-It is more difficult. I tried to write a song for a couple of weeks ago, but it was difficult.
When choosing songs, then? Do you write 30 songs for an album?
-I write 30-35 songs and will select 10-12. It's pretty hard, but I usually try to choose songs with the same sound. Those who have the same beat and instruments.
