I reckon native speakers with different accents choose either of them...

Pretty sure it's always an H.

why are you so sure?

I stand corrected. Wiki states the Irish and the Aussies, etc, are using haitch. I guess I don't have enough Irish or Aussies around me. =]

这个问题得慰基才行:
In almost all dialects of English, the name for the letter H is pronounced
/
ˈ
eɪ
tʃ
/ and spelled ⟨aitch⟩
or occasionally ⟨eitch⟩. The pronunciation
/
ˈ
h
eɪ
tʃ
/ and hence a spelling of ⟨haitch⟩ is often considered to be h-adding and hence nonstandard. It is, however, a feature of Hiberno-English and other varieties of English, such as those of Malaysia and Singapore. In Northern Ireland it is a shibboleth as Protestant schools teach aitch and Catholics haitch.
In Australia, this has also been attributed to Catholic school teaching and is estimated to be in use by 60% of the population.
