One thing’s for sure: today could have gone a lot better. We still don't know why we couldn’t carry over our good performance from Q1 and Q2 into the final stage of quali, but for some reason we just couldn't get the speed. It's particularly frustrating because we were looking so good in practice. But luckily all is not lost. It may be third place but we’re on the clean side of the grid, which makes all the difference as we can still do a lot from there.
OK I know it's not that far from the start line to the first turn, but it's doable. Besides we already know that Singapore is a very long race and the whole race can change in the blink of an eye. The important thing is to find our speed again and not make any mistakes because on this track even a small mistake can make a huge difference.
So while we do look at the other drivers to see how they’re performing, we try to focus on ourselves. We know our weaknesses, but crucially we know our strengths as well.
Our dominance in free practice and the first parts of qualifying proved that we can achieve much more than a third place and that gives us confidence – and that could be the most important thing of all in tomorrow's race.
Talk to you soon.
Seb
