[Ireland Day 1] via Shay's Blog
8:30 AM:
Arrive in DublinRob from Vagabond Adventures was there to greet us! He knew we were ready for a coffee… unfortunately, he missed the Baileys Irish Cream.
10:00am-Carton House
We stopped at Carton House to meet Discover Ireland for a quick breakfast bite and a jaunt around the golf course. After we left, we were informed that the Irish Rugby Team trains in that area. I will have to meet my future husband next time…
1:45 PM: Westport House
Took a tour of Westport House, a stunning mansion set in a picturesque setting surrounded by streams, sheep and rolling hills. It was originally owned by the Pirate Queen, Grace O’Malley, but now resides in the hands of her descendants.
2:15 PM: Town of Westport
Picked up our bikes for a cycling tour around the town of Westport and the Atlantic coastline of Clew Bay. Thanks to Electric Escapes for our electric bikes, it made “climbing” the rolling hills just a little bit easier!
4:00 PM: The Tavern
Popped in to The Tavern for a late lunch with locals where we ate fresh mussels picked off the rocks!
7:00 PM: Delphi Mountain Resort
We needed a second to catch our breath after the STUNNING drive! Then, needed a second second to catch our breath after taking a look at the Delphi Mountain Resort.
We ended the day with an incredible Sea Weed bath at their award winning spa (a definite MUST DO).

[Ireland Day 2] via Shay's Blog
9:30 AM: Kayaking
We got suited up in our most finest attire (wetsuits), and paddled along the beautiful coastline of Killary Harbour, Irelands only fjord. Along the trip we saw baby seal pups and mussel farms.
1:00 PM: Lunch in Leenane
After a quick shower we were on the road again for lunch in Leenane. On the way we saw some beautiful sites.
We found a great pub called Hamilton’s – nothing beats dinning with locals!
3:00 PM: Turf Man Adventure
NOTHING could have prepared us for what we were to do next at the Killary Adventure Centre. Rob (our “ex” friend from Vagabond Adventures) forgot to mention what the Turf Man Adventure was… I guess this is why…

And what could be better then Shay winning a race? The stakes were high, as the loser gets to try Black Pudding tomorrow morning …
I have to say this was one of the most fun things we have ever done.Thanks GI-Shane (our saviour and downfall)!
Oh and we bumped into some Pretty Little Liar fans from Mount Anvil School in Dublin. Thankfully they were there to help Shay out of the mud:
6:15 PM: Ballynahinch Castle
After 2 showers and a bottle of shampoo we were off again to Ballynahinch Castle, the perfect place to rest and recover from todays activities.

After an amazing dinner at the Ballynahinch Castle, we were ready for another day of exploration and adventure.
6:00 AM – Rise & Shine
Up at the crack of dawn to catch the beautiful sunrise, have a bite to eat, and a quick walk.
9:00 AM – Connemara
We drove past the 12 Bens Mountain range (which means 12 heads) through Connemara en route to Roosaveale.
The landscapes in Ireland are truly magnificent … Shay spent the entire drive capturing photos.
9:55 AM – Irish Lads
Before the trip we heard they were good looking … so we met our new boyfriends…
10:15 AM – Aran Islands

1:15 PM
Thanks to some local gals, we found our way to the airport! Special thanks to Aer Arann for accommodating our last minute flight and providing us with transport into Galway. It was Irish hospitality at its very best.
6:15 PM – Doolin & McGanns Pub
Like any good adventure, it came with a few surprises – and since there is so much to see in Ireland, everything is a plus. We still ended our day in Doolin, and got to visit the famous McGanns Pub. If you want to get a taste of traditional live Irish music then this is definitely the place to go!


[Ireland Day 4] via Shay's Blog
9:00 AM – Cliffs of Moher
It was such a gorgeous clear morning so we headed to the Cliffs of Moher, one of the 7 wonders of nature. The photos are amazing, but seeing 700ft of limestone cliffs live is absolutely breathtaking. You might also recognize these from the movie The Princess Bride. We were the first people to arrive there and it was awesome to have the place to ourselves.It’s not just the height thats impressive, but also there almost symmetrical formation.
11:00 AM – Shannon
We crossed the mighty river Shannon (ironic), Shay was delighted to know that Ireland named a river after her.（有Shay的名字，Shannon啊，Shay的全名是Shannon Ashley "Shay" Mitchell）
1:30 PM – Camp
After the cliffs we travelled down the west coast of Ireland, crossing the River Shannon by ferry and into County Kerry in the south west. En route to our next activity we popped in to the Junction Bar in Camp for some grub, it was the best vegetable soup and toastie sangwich (toasted sandwich) ever. We were thinking about spending the day enjoying the view, but Rob insisted we hop back into the “Vagatron” and head to our next activity – surfing!
2:30 PM – Surf Time
We had NO idea Ireland had such great conditions for surfing, apparently some of the very best surfing in Europe can be found here. The beaches are amazing and deserted, with plenty of waves for everyone.
We got suited and booted in yet another wetsuit. World famous windsurfer and surfer, Jamie Knox, gave us a lesson before heading out.
Shortly thereafter we were into the trenches in Brandon Bay. It really wasn’t even cold because we were so busy catching waves and we were delighted when we both managed to stand up on our boards. Jamie said we were very good! If they ever make the movie ‘Point Break 2′ (or Blue Crush 2) we are so going to audition.Did I mention we are also pro paddle boarders?
5:00 PM – Conor Pass
After conquering the waves we were on our way to Dingle we drove through Irelands highest mountain road, the Conor Pass. The pass itself provides wonderful views the Brandon Mountains, the 5th highest mountain in Ireland. The scenery down here is a bit greener and the mountains more rolling than the landscapes of Connemara, which was beautiful in a wilder way.
5:45 PM – Dingle
Dingle, a community of about 2,000 is a colorful, vibrant fishing community out on the Dingle peninsula.It was put on the map by the arrival of Fungi the Dolphin back in 1983, who still lives wild in the bay. You can take a boat trip to see Fungi or even swim with him, but that would involve another wetsuit…
The town is a great summer vacation spot, but even in March the town is bumping… And because its a fishing village, if you like seafood then this place is a must do! We ate at Out of Blue Restaurant and although all the food we have had so far has been gorgeous (as Rob would say), this meal is surely the winner so far. This was “potato encrusted pollock”Happy-tired from our adventures we spent the night at the Castlewood Guesthouse with our charming hostess, Helen.

9:30 AM – Irish Examiner
Casually reading the paper during breakfast at Castlewood House … is that someone we know?!
11:00 AM – Longs
Up and at em, pidder padder we drove along the beautiful bay of Ventry, to Longs Riding Stables for a morning of horseback riding! After saddling up on Hugo & Champ (Irish Cobbs), we followed a scenic trail along the slopes of Mount Eagle then down to the beach. Ventry beach is one of those places where you could sit in the breeze for hours and watch the waves roll in. It was a moment we had been looking forward to since we heard we were coming to Ireland, and it totally surpassed our expectations.
12.30 Dingle town
We couldn’t leave Dingle without looking around the shops and galleries. The area seems to attract craftsmen and women, including potters, weavers, jewellery makers and artists. We could have spent all day browsing the colourful shops and alleys, but it was time to move on – more adventures await.
2:15 – Inch Strand
Although we had experienced a number of the adventure activities possible in Ireland (and we have been amazed by the variety, quality and accessibility of all the adventure options), there was still one more which we had yet to try. This one did not involve a wetsuit, but it did involve a beach. Inch Strand is about 3 KM of beach stretching out into Dingle bay on a spit. It was time to crank up Adele on the stereo and off-road off into the distance…
3:00 PM – Kissane Sheep Farm
Over the past few days, one of the things Shay and I have enjoyed most has been driving through all the different towns and peering out to the colourful landscapes along the way. Spring is definitely in the air, which means lots and lots of babies (not for us)! We have been gushing over how cute the baby lambs are, playing next to their mothers in the fields by the side of the road. I guess Rob from Vagabond noticed … and added this VERY special surprise activity for us: a visit to Kissane Sheep Farm.Kissane Sheep Farm is high up in the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks Mountains on the Ring of Kerry scenic drive. Not only were we spoiled with getting to see baby lambs up close, but the farm was situated in a most beautiful location with a phenomenal mountainous backdrop.
6:00 PM – Shelburn Lodge
Still gushing over the baby lambs, we arrived at the lovely Georgian townhouse, Shelburne Lodge in Kenmare. Maura Foley, our hostess of the house, was so welcoming and prepared a tea treat for us in the orchard. We felt like we were in the Secret Garden.
8:30 PM – Wild Garlic
If you hadn’t noticed, another most-liked thing about our tour of Ireland is the food. Everything we have tasted has been so fresh and absolutely delicious, but just when we thought it couldn’t get any better… it did. Both the atmosphere and cuisine at Wild Garlic was incredible. This was the Monkfish with lemon pine nut:
10:45 PM – Coachmans Inn
After indulging in such a tremendous dinner, we thought we would check out a local favourite pub, The Coachmans Inn, to do a bit of dancing. Michael O’Brien, aka ‘Mike the Box’, and Sean O’Connor did a modern take on traditional Irish music which got the whole crowd dancing, though no one could quite match Jody’s unique ‘moves’ (We are putting together a video of the trip…). So funzies.


[Ireland Day 6, Goodbye for now] via Shay's Blog
9:00 AM – Breakfast
Enjoyed a beautiful breakfast in the dinning room at Shelburn Lodge before taking off for the day
12:15 PM – Cashel
En route to Dublin we decided to make a few pit stops – thankfully there is no shortage of historic sites in Ireland! It was only fitting that the “Irish Priss, and Irish Princess” take a visit to The Rock of Cashel in Country Tipparary. The rock of Cashel is one of Irelands most famous historic treasures and has a rich collection of religious buildings dating back over 1000 years.
2:00 PM – The Rock of Dun Na Mase
As you can imagine, being a Priss & a Princess is hard work, so we stopped for a picnic at The Rock of Dun Na Mase. The Rock of Dun Na Mase is a ruined castle totally off the beaten track. It is one of the most historic sites in Ireland because in 1169 the King who lived there, Dermot McMurragh, opened the door to English intervention which led to control in Ireland. The castle was destroyed in the 1650′s by the armies of Oliver Cromwell.The views down from the rock are spectacular, and the green fields are totally picturesque.
3:30 PM – Guinness Family
We couldnt leave Ireland without seeing the iconic Irish Guinness Factory, established in 1759 by Sir Aurthor Guinness. Sir Authror Guinness took out a 5k year lease on the property and they still pay the say 100 pounds a year rent! For many years it was the largest brewery in the world and the Guinness family is very much a part of Irish culture. Not only do they produce lovely beer, but they have also done a huge amount of philanthropic work for the Irish people, and the company has always been known as an excellent employer.
THE GOODBYEI am sad to say this was our LAST day in Ireland and thus our last blog entry (for now). Both Shay and I had such an incredible experience and we can not wait to start planning our next trip back! Ireland has really made an impression on us, from the delicious food, and outstanding landscapes, to the multitude of things to do. As we are getting ready to say goodbye we are reminiscing over all of the wonderful experiences trying to figure out what we liked most… we just can’t decide!
