Sept 1st1939, Hitler invades Poland
"livingspace" -- Hitler wanted the German race to get bigger + spread Eastwardsinto Poland + the USSR
Planes attack communication centres railways
Troop attack all (?) one place, and are mechanized (cars, trucks, motorbikes)
Battle ofBritain (1940)
Hitler knows Britain will not stop fighting him
He makes plans to invade Britain -- "Operation Sealion"
He needs to destroy the British air force so that his ships can cross the channel (R.A.F)
Tries to bomb them on the ground
The British planes can staying the air longer because they have less distance to trowel
British pilots who are shot down can fly again, the German pilots are captured
The British had perfected RADAR -- they know when and where the German planes were in advance
Hurricane + spitfire were faster + more nimble than the German planes
Hitler realizes he cannot defeat the RAF + because he cannot invade
He switches to the bombing of cities + civilians to try and use terror to get the British to surrender -- "the Blitz"
This does not work
This is Hitler's first defeat
One of the turning points of WWII
1941
"operationBarbarossa"
Why? - hewants land!
Hitlerinvades the USSR
He hates communism
He believes slows are inferior humans
This is the biggest dumbest most idiotic moronic decision that Hitler ever makes
The invasion of the USSR is a big mistake
it is a huge country with a huge population + Stalin has been modernizing it + preparing for war
After initial successes the Germans are stopped by Soviet resistance + the Russian weather and they cannot take Moscow
By 1942-1943, the Germans had almost "run out the steam"
42 battles of Stalingrad + Kursk -- here the retreat. They lose hundreds of thousands of their best troops. (most historians consider those battle to be the most significant of WWII)
PearlHarbor (Dec 7,1941)
Theneutral USA is dragged into the war by the Japanese attack on P.H. (the majorUS naral base in the Pacific)
The Japanese had been fighting the Britain the Pacific but they believed US entry was inevitable
-- both of them want the Pacific
The Japanese play is to cripple to US Fleet + win the war before the US can recover.
The attack failed to cripple the US fleet because the 3 aircraft carrier the US had were suddenly + unexplainably told to leave Pearl Harbor the night before the attack. So the US could continue fighting after Dec 7th. Some people believe this proves that FDR knew -- most historians do not accept this
This brings the USA into the war on the allies side
1940Germany, Italy + Japan vs. Britain + Empire
1941 G +I + J vs. B + E + USA + USSR
And outnumbered by the Japanese in the battle of Hong Kong, all the troops were eitherkilled or captured, those who were captured suffered terribly in the Japanesecamps, many died of starvation and disease
Dec, 1941
A test ofthe German defenses in France
Thesecret attack was a failure, the Germans know Canadians are coming
Therewasn't enough navoul or air cover the troops
41-43British victories in North Africa enable the British, Americans and Canadiansto invade Italy.
43 --Italy surrenders but the Germans in Italy keep fighting the Allies
TheAllies should have stepped in to stop Hitler when he invaded the Rhineland in1936. because he was breaking the T of V, his army was not strong enough to fighting. It should have beenobvious that he was not going to stop there.
Warmeasures act is used to do it
Not asingle Japanese Canadian was ever found to have spied for Japan
When theyreturned in 1947 all of their property has been to BC citizen by the BCgovernment
Social
Conscription- many people went overseas (men 18-45)
Populationgot smaller
=>many job vacancies. More people had jobs & earn more money
Withsupport of the government
Economy
At theend of 1941 industries across the nation were working overtime to produce warnational selection service to direct the workers because those was out(?) ofcompetition. For workers to get jobs, the had to go through the NSS and it theytook a job w(?) the NSS they would be fined $500 the economy crippled by theGreat Depression was up and running
