Up-and-comer Skylar Grey stopped by the morning show today to talk about about her budding music career and collaborations with Dr. Dre, Diddy-Dirty Money, Lupe Fiasco and more!
Skylar will be releasing her first single later this spring, so she’s definitely one artist to keep an eye on!
Skylar shot to fame after co-writing “Love The Way You Lie” and impressing music junkies with her killer demo version of the summer smash hit.
Since then, it’s been a whirlwind for the 2-time Grammy nominated artist.
She helped co-write and sing on Dr. Dre and Eminem’s “I Need A Doctor” and Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Coming Home.”

Skylar Grey takes the 2011 Grammys by storm!
Skylar even performed alongside a bevy of rap royalty at the Grammys this year, but she was mostly hidden from view!
The 25-year-old singer explains that the mystery is all part of her master plan:
That [Skylar's Grammys performance] was actually intentional on my part…It’s been part of our whole plan in my roll out. At first, people didn’t know what I looked like and they were like, “Is she black? Is she white? Is she ugly? Is she fat? Why aren’t they showing this girl’s pictures?” And so we just want to reveal little bits at a time. We don’t want to just give it all away.
But this isn’t Skylar’s first success in the music business. She’s been singing since the age of 5 and sung the hook on the 2006 Fort Minor song, “Where’d You Go?”
She also released her solo album Like Blood Like Honey that same year. Back then, she went by the name Holly Brook, but that didn’t last for long:
“I changed my name, man. I got sick of Holly…She was too sweet and let people walk all over her. I kind of retreated into the woods and became a completely different person over the past couple of years.”
