The actor had moved bag and baggage to Wai, just outside Panchgani to concentrate on his film that clashes on Eid with Akshay Kumar's upcoming gangster film "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai 2". And not just the film, SRK had also been shooting for all his upcoming brand endorsements in Wai. A source says, "SRK stayed put in Wai to leave no stone unturned in making "Chennai Express" as big as it gets. He was also getting his other work done sitting there. In the past one month, he had shot for five ads there, including a tea and automobile brand. The people behind the brands had to fly down to Wai to get their work done." A source close to the star says that SRK's focus right now is solely resting on his upcoming film helmed by Rohit Shetty. "He is a perfectionist and considering it's an Eid release, he is juggling time between the film, his commercials and his other work commitments." Shah Rukh Khan has staked his claim to the most coveted release date of the film calendar, which has been monopolised by Salman Khan so far. "Chennai Express" will be flagged off on the day of Eid, on August 8. This is the first time in years that SRK will release his film on the auspicious day that has seen Sallu storm the box office with Wanted, "Bodyguard" "Dabangg" and "Ek Tha Tiger". With SRK traditionally dominating the Diwali slot, it was an unwritten code between the two stars that one will not eye the other’s favourite time of the year. But trust SRK to throw caution to the wind. The date for Chennai Express was finalised at a meeting held in Wai yesterday. It has been learnt that Shah Rukh, who has been camping there for weeks now, called the various stakeholders to the set. Among them were distributors, members of the production house, Rohit Shetty, Farah Khan, who has choreographed a song for the film, and music directors Vishal-Shekhar. “Interesting thing about the conclave was, one did not know about the others who had been summoned,” said a source. SRK, who was in a jubilant mood, broke the news to all present. “Get ready for Eid!” he reportedly said, to whoops of delight. That Chennai Express would eventually release on Eid, had become increasingly apparent over the past few weeks. Salman’s Sher Khan, announced as an Eid release, was shelved. His Mental is unlikely to get ready by that time. Bhansali wisely moved "Ram Leela" away from the collision course, to avoid a repeat of the OSO - "Saawariya" story. That kept the slot open for Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai - 2. Now that’s hardly competition. It remains to be seen if Salman’s luck rubs off on his arch rival.

These two unusual films - Anurag Basu's directorial venture Barfi!, Sujoy Ghosh directed Kahaani - and John Abraham's maiden home production film Vicky Donor won not only the hearts of the audience but awards as well at the 58th Filmfare awards that were held at the Yash Raj Films studio in Andheri in suburban Mumbai. Ranbir Kapoor won yet another Best Actor award at Filmfare for Barfi!, the Best Film award was also given to Barfi!. Best Debut Award (Female) was bagged by Ileana D'cruz for the same movie. The Best Background Score and Best Music Director awards went to Pritam for Barfi!, and award for Best Production Design went to Rajat Podar for the same film. Vidya Balan continued her winning spree in the Best Actress category with Filmfare Best Actress award for Kahaani. Best Director award was handed over to Sujoy Ghosh, while Best Sound Design award went to Sanjay Maurya and Allwin Rego for Kahaani. Two major awards for Kahaani came from Namrata Rao bagging the Best Editing title and Sethu winning Best Cinematography. In the Best Actor Supporting Role (Male) category, the award went to Annu Kapoor for his portrayal of Dr Chaddha in Vicky Donor. Writer of the film Juhi Chaturvedi earned the Best Story award. Ayushmann Khurrana, who made his acting debut in the movie, won two awards - Best Debut (Male) and Best Playback Singer (Male) for the song Paani Da. Anushka Sharma won Best Actor in Supporting Role (Female) award for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, while Gulzar won the Best Lyrics award for Challa from Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Filmfare award for the Best Debut Director was bagged by Gauri Shinde for English Vinglish. Best Dialogue Award went to Anurag Kashyap, Akhilesh Jaiswal, Sachin K Ladia and Zeishan Qadri for Gangs of Wasseypur. Best Screenplay Award goes to Sanjay Chouhan and Tigmanshu Dhulia for Paan Singh Tomar. Award for the Best Playback Singer (Female) went to Shalmali Kholgade for the song Pareshaan in Ishaqzaade. Filmfare Award for Best Action went to Sham Kaushal for Gangs of Wasseypur and Best Choreography to Bosco-Caesar for the super fun song Aunty Ji from Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Neeti Mohan won the RD Burman Award, while the Lifetime Achievement Award went to late filmmaker Yash Chopra. Madhuri Dixit Nene presented the award to the late filmmaker's wife, Pamela Chopra. Madhuri worked with Yash Chopra in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, which was amongst the most successful films of her career. Yash Chopra passed away just weeks before the release of his last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan last year. The film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma turned out to be a big hit. Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor Male was given to Irrfan Khan for Paan Singh Tomar and Richa Chaddha won the same award in female category for Gangs of Wasseypur. Best Film in this category was won by Gangs of Wasseypur. Celebrities added glitz and glamour as they walked the red carpet. Dressed in her traditional golden-red sari, Rekha walked the red carpet with grace. Madhuri Dixit arrived with her husband Sriram Nene in a black color dress, while Parineeti Chopra too looked glamorous in a black outfit. Others who came include Vidya Balan, Gauri Shinde with husband R Balki, Karan Johar, Irrfan Khan, Soojit Sircar, Chitrangada Singh, R Madhavan, Manoj Bajpayee, Kunal Kohli, Sonali Bendre with Goldie Behl, Yami Gautam, Ayushmaan Khurrana and David Dhawan.

And the remake also went on to become a successful franchise with its super hit sequel. Farhan Akhtar had stunned the world when he chose to remake Amitabh Bachchan's 1978 blockbuster 'Don' in 2006 with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. The film was highly successful and so was the sequel 'Don 2' that released five years later in 2011. Though the climax of the sequel hinted that 'Don 3' would be made, there were reports that Farhan was not interested in coming up with yet another sequel. But refuting the rumors, he recently confessed that he loves the franchise too much to leave it. "I have always been a firm believer in the saying 'Never Say Never' and besides that I am too fascinated by the character 'Don' to let it go. I never said that I wouldn't make another sequel," said Farhan. So when probed over the possible date of the sequel Farhan says that he would start it as soon as he gets a good story for the same. "I want to take 'Don' franchise to another level. I will start the film provided I have a good script in hand. But I cannot put a deadline to it," added Farhan. As 'Don' says "Don Ka Intezaar Toh 12 Mulkon Ki Police Kar Rahi Hai" hence it looks like the fans are not spared from waiting in anticipation as well. Hopefully like the previous two films, the wait will be worth it this time as well.

All these actors have had a great year and we would have loved to reward each of them, but unfortunately, there can be only one winner. And BollywoodLife readers have quite unanimously chosen Shahrukh as the male rockstar of 2012. The Jab Tak Hai Jaan star topped the list with a cool 40 percent votes, followed by Salman who received 29.35 per cent votes thanks to his consistent box office charm – this year with Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2. Akshay Kumar, who had a mixed year – with hits like Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore and OMG! Oh My God!, and a debacle in the form of Joker – got 16.69 percent votes to come out third on this list of rockstars. Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor, who had just one release each in 2012 (Agneepath and Barfi!), received only 7.81 percent and 3.46 percent votes respectively. Nawazuddin Siddiqui made it to the list with a tiny 0.69 percent votes. The most surprising result though was that Aamir Khan received a meagre 1.36 percent votes and Ajay Devgn (despite huge hits like Bol Bachchan and Son Of Sardaar) got only 0.75 percent. It looks like their fans weren’t really impressed by their efforts this year.

A source said, "When SRK's ambitious project RA.One was getting ready for release, he was keen to make another science fiction film and had informed his team to work on the lines of Mahabharata. Shah Rukh Khan said, "I wanted to make a modern-day Mahabharata but I was on a flight and read that Rajji (Rajkumar Santoshi) is also making it. So I dropped the idea. Also a costume drama takes a lot of time and you need to have a certain look and you have to get into character for a year. (Photo: AFP) Bollywood "demigod and prince charming" Shah Rukh Khan whipped thousands of Moroccans into a frenzy at the Marrakech film festival when he danced to the tunes of movie songs at the Jamaa El Fna square. SRK, 47, popularly known as "King Khan", was cheered at the square -- a mecca of tourism in Morocco -- where a giant screen was installed to show a preview of his latest Hindi movie, Jab Tak Hain Jaan. In its 12th edition, the festival which runs until December 8 in this ochre city, is presenting a "special tribute" to Indian cinema as it celebrates its centenary. "I am pleased to present the star, the icon, the demigod of Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan," said an organiser as the arrival of the star sparked a roar from young fans, who braved gloomy and cold weather to catch a glimpse of him. Shah Rukh Khan, who acted in some 80 films, was specially invited for the festival in Morocco, where Bollywood films rank alongside Egyptian movies in popularity. A true showman, he warmed up the atmosphere with more than half-an-hour song and dance performance on stage that had the crowds screaming in appreciation. Later festival organisers screened a preview of Jab Tak Hain Jaan, directed by legendary Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra who died in October in Mumbai, after more than five decades of movie career. SRK had acted in several box-office hit movies produced and directed by Yash Chopra such as Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil To Paagal Hai and Daar. He has also taken lead roles in other blockbusters such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham directed by Karan Johar. "This is the first time I am seeing Shah Rukh Khan. This is a dream. He was two feet away from me. He is so simple and modest," Khadija Ariba, a young student, told AFP. "I know all his films. They talk of love, injustice, humanity... things that we speak of. He is the prince of most girls." For many fans it was an "unforgettable" experience at Jamaa El Fna. "We watch movies on satellite channels and some movie theatres. But to be present here on Jamaa El Fna is unforgettable for me," said Ouadie El Ouwad. Ranked in 2001 as part of the World Heritage List by UNESCO, Jamaa El Fna -- site of the April 28, 2011 bombing that killed 17 people -- was teeming with joyful fans -- mostly students and employees -- who cheered SRK. "I left my workplace at 5 pm to see Shah Rukh Khan from close, but once here the place was already packed with people," said Ahmed, 32, a carpenter. "What I like most are his songs. And I have a friend, who speaks very good Hindi which he learned by watching his movies," he said as he straddled his motorcycle. Fifteen films are in the race for the top prize at the festival, including Touch of the Light by Taiwanese Chang Jung-Chi, The Attack by French-Lebanese Ziad Doueiri and Like a Lion by Samuel Collardey of France.
