It was kind of my first day of testing 2011, and I feel we had an interesting session today. We gathered a lot of data and insights, and we got a lof of positive feedback from the new tyres which obviously cannot be more than a first impression. I am probably the only driver having ever driven Pirelli tyres, but then this is 20 years ago, so I did not have certain expectations. But in terms of consistency for example, it looked quite good. Saying that, we were driving the 2010 car today, so it will all be about how that tyres suits the 2011 car. I am already curious to try it out, but at the same time I am looking forward to having a break now. I am sure the guys are too, and they clearly deserve it. I would like to thank all of them for the good job they were doing over the season, I massively enjoyed working with them."

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER
“The start of the season certainly has not worked out as we had hoped, and we will tick this race off now and concentrate on the next one in Malaysia. I am very sorry for our guys here and at the factory who have worked so hard and so well over the winter, but for some reason we could not bring their work into results this weekend. As for the race itself, I had quite a good start but was then hit in turn three which punctured the right rear tyre and resulted in damage to the floor. As the damage was quite substantial, we decided to stop the car for safety reasons. It was an even bigger shame that Nico was then knocked out of the race as he could have scored some good points for the team. I still believe we have potential, as we saw during winter testing, and I am convinced we will fight back.”

“That was a disappointing first weekend of the season. It was a tough race until my retirement with the cars behind me pushing hard. I saw Rubens in my mirror and he was quite far away so I was surprised that he hit me. I immediately thought that was it and I had to pull over to stop the car. It’s very sad for the team as they have worked so hard this weekend and throughout the winter. However we focus on the positive and it will be interesting to see how we perform in Malaysia. Melbourne is a very unique track and we will only know where we really are after the next couple of races.”

Michael ahead of the Chinese GP
Challenges fire me up as much as everybody else in our team
"I am, of course, looking forward to racing in Shanghai as challenges fire me up as much as everybody else in our team. We know that we have little time to build after the race in Malaysia but we are learning with every lap that we race, so we are heading there with an open mind and full of ambition to do better than in the opening races. We know that our fans in China are very enthusiastic and really get behind us, so we will definitely try to put on a good show for them."

“That was a lot of racing in one Grand Prix this afternoon and very exciting! I had a lot of fun this afternoon and I’m so pleased to see the hard work of our guys paid off this weekend. We have made a big step forward with our car and it worked very well. We are heading towards the first race in Europe now and will bring some upgrades to Istanbul which should help us to improve even more. It is good to leave Asia with a positive feeling.”

On 25th August 1991 Michael made his debut as a Formula 1 driver at the
Belgian Grand Prix in Spa. Twenty years later on 28th August 2011 Michael
celebrates his jubilee on one of his favourite race courses – the very same one
in Spa.
Jet Set honours this long lasting sports performance with 281 exclusively
designed T-shirts. 281, because that’s the number of Formula 1 races Michael
Schumacher will have completed by Sunday, 28th August 2011. On the front of the
black T-shirt are seven stars: five red stars representing his World Champion
titles won in the Ferrari, and two golden stars representing his success with
the Benetton team. The Jet Set logo is in golden writing on the arms. On
Saturday Michael will give away the 281 T-shirts to his friends and career
companions during a party in the paddock; he will also be wearing one himself
during the Belgian race weekend.
The most successful Formula 1 driver of
all time has been involved in a cooperation contract with the Jet Set brand
since February 2010. Michael is synonymous with speed and a passion for sport.
Bring him together with Jet Set and you’ll combine these qualities with luxury
and style.
As part of this agreement, Michael wears the brand’s logo on his
Mercedes GP Petronas racing overalls. In February 2011, another component of the
collaboration was announced: Michael has been playing an active role in helping
to design the JET SET RACING collection.

Jet
Set was founded in 1969 in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Since 2008 the Gaydoul Group
became the majority shareholder. Jet Set has its roots in the world of winter
sports, where the label revolutionised ski fashion by uniting aspects such as
functionality, glamour, sexiness and style. Jet Set supplies both functional
sportswear and clothing for urban dwellers with sporty lifestyles. The range
includes fashion for women, men and children. Jet Set products are currently
available from around 100 leading retailers around the world. Jet Set also has

Michael making his way in Spa
From 24th to 5th position - a wonderful ending of a particular
weekend
"A wonderful ending to a wonderful weekend here in Spa. I think more than
fifth place would not have been possible today but making up 19 places was a
good feeling. With all my family, friends and fans here, it was an extra
motivation, and I would like to thank all of them for their support. They saw an
exciting race with a great strategy from our team. So all in all, for me, there
was a lot of emotion and a lot of overtaking today. At the beginning I was a bit
afraid that some of the flying parts might hit and damage my car, but I was
lucky that nothing happened. After that, I had big fun hunting and making my way
forward."

Michael is happy about the amount of good wishes he received
„Now that the weekend of the Belgian Grand Prix is history since some days,
I wanted to explicitly say Thank You again. In the past weeks I have received so
many messages which encouraged me to go on, and in the days of the Spa weekend I
got so many good wishes, that sometimes all that is left for me to do is sending
a big Thanks to all of you. Those experiences leave me speechless, and all I can
say is: I have the best fans in the world!“

„The final European race takes place at Monza, a truly historic Formula One circuit, and one where I have always been so warmly welcomed and supported over the years. We achieved a good team result in Spa last weekend, and I especially enjoyed the overtaking battles and the challenge of making up so many places during the race. This gives us a boost going into the final part of the season, and we will continue pushing hard to get the best possible results."

ONZA, SUNDAY: MICHAEL: “THE FIGHTING AGAINST LEWIS WAS BIG FUN!”
Michael finished in fifth place today after a thrilling Italian Grand Prix: “It was an exciting race today, both for me and I think for all of our fans, and that is why I am happy. The fighting against Lewis was big fun, and my mirrors seemed to be very small at times. We are both known for driving on the limit, and that is what we did. I had to make my car as wide as a truck, and had to stretch the possible as much as I could, but in the end, as expected, he was still faster.
The start was ideal, I held back on purpose at first in order to use the grip perfectly afterwards, and then the left side was all free. To make the most of your possibilities is the maximum possible at times, and that is why I had fun today, especially knowing that there is more to come in the future, with all the support we have from Mercedes.”

„Look forward to night racing“ After two good races Michael wants to collect more points in Singapore „I really enjoyed my first experience of Formula One night racing in Singapore last year and it was an interesting weekend to be working on such a different time schedule. Surprisingly, it worked out very well and somehow even fun to drive and have meetings in the middle of the night. The street circuit is good fun and quite challenging, and as an event for the fans, it is also fantastic as they can get so close to the cars around the city streets and see a real racing spectacle. We have enjoyed good results at the final two European races in Spa and Monza, and everyone will be working to continue the hard work and keep up the points finishes as we head to Asia for the flyaway races.”

Mixed feelings on fridayMichael completed 39 laps over the course of the two evening practice sessions "As usual on these types of circuits, the track is pretty slippery and provides low grip. It was not really useful therefore that the practice time was cut, because we had a big programme to work on. But then, it was what it was, so we made the best out of it. The picture overall is probably as expected: no big surprises, and maybe the most obvious thing is that the difference between the tyres is quite big. For the rest, it is too early to say as we did not have the time yet to analyse the practice sessions fully. I like the race here; it is a bit like the modern Monaco, very exciting with more run-off areas."

Michael 8th in Qualifying”We chose not to run in Q3 to save new tyres for the race” "It was quite a tactical qualifying session, in which we chose not to run in Q3 to save new tyres for the race. In theory, this should be worth some time over the race distance, so it was a calculated risk worth taking. As we all know from the past, a lot of incidents can happen during the Singapore Grand Prix, so I will certainly go for any opportunity which might occur. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for Sebastian to clinch his second world title here tomorrow."

Background Track EvolutionAn explanation on what exactly happens during the processing of „rubbering in.“In 2010, the Korea International Ciruit registered the greatest decrease in lap times between first practice and qualifying as the circuit rubbered-in: the pole time was 5.302 seconds faster than the quickest time in practice one, compared to an average dry weather improvement of around 2.5 seconds. That`s typical for a new circuit on which the cars are running for the first time, and also strongly charcteristic of little-used street circuits.
