·Do not use/waste a light source when scavenging an event spot (100% loot chance). Even for normal scavenging, early game you don't need to maximize your loot chance unless it's one of the rare loots such as good weapons, camp upgrade components, rubber, tarp, sugar, etc. Torch is fine to use since it's cheap to make.
·Pin some essential items, pinned item means you will not drop it when pressing the "Drop all" button. This allow for quick inventory clear outside of cities before looting.
·Try your best not to drink water directly since it gives the lowest return (20 Water), instead, use it to make tea, coffee, or cook food. Even making chowders give 25 Water per 1 clean water used.
·Salt your meat if it's about to expire. Salt is fairly cheap from settlements and salted meat can be used in most recipe in place of minced meat as well as selling to the settlement for early income. Don't eat salted meat directly.
·You can eat Moss from swamp for water & Cranberry for rad reduction without any processing.
·Don't heal your pet, just feed it and let it heals naturally.
·You should check every building, loot almost everything that is not in a house, ruins, or a crater.
·Do not consume uncooked food or dirty water. Uncooked foods have risks of disease and illness which is detrimental early game.
·The cheapest flashlight at the current version (v.821) is the Dynamo flashlight but this is only sold in early settlements, stock up on them whenever you can.
·Before sleeping, keep an eye on your surroundings. Do not sleep in cities or irradiated biomes in order to avoid radiation exposure (only the first few cities near his starting point have no radiation).
·Remember to buy and use medicine regularly as you need. Pick up and keep all medicine the Survivor finds, including components and survival items used to stitch himself up (bandages, medical kits, etc.).
·Take your time to level up, enemies and loots jump in difficulty every 20 levels (20, 40, 60, 80, 100). You can commit liven't to reduce your level to a maximum of 5 from your highest level reached. At each difficulty jump, if you find the combat too hard, unequip your armor and intentionally jump into battle repeatedly and get curbstomped so that you can continue scavenging at lower difficulty, just make sure that if you're cracking weapon boxes, do it first at the higher difficulty so you can get the better weapons. The only penalty for committing liven't is losing xp, current food buffs and cancelling all on-going settlement missions. Main and sub story mission will still be there so there's no harm in doing so.
·Add your pet in battles always, even if it's barely alive and doesn't join combat. it needs those xp
·Use homemade explosives sparingly, only use it to open doors that the only alternative being grenades. If a door can be opened with a tool (hacksaw, crowbar, axe), go with the tool.
·It is advisable to progress slowly at first and to visit every town to loot lots of supplies, to level up, gain perks, etc... It is not a problem not to carry everything from one town to another; just leave extra loot outside of towns to be able to retrieve it swiftly when you will pass by again (possibly in a long long time!).
·If you drop items on the map and outside cities, they will be marked with a special symbol so you know where to look when you come back for them later. You can also flag a location using the Flag icon at top right. If you get lucky and scavenged a heavy valuables such as a lathe (whooping 1.1 ton) early game, flag it on the map with a specific icon and color so you can revisit to collect it later. Flagging cities that you have scavenged also help reduce any unnecessary backtracking.
·As of v.821, Weapons can only be repaired at specialist in NPC settlements and will disappear when used up all durability (they don't turn into broken weapon). You can repair armor and vehicle by yourself but usually it's not cost-effective.
·Except flashlights, equipment will get better as you progress so once you managed to scavenge or cracked boxes for a better weapon than your current one, stick to the better weapon.
·Do not carry more common goods than you need: food, weapons, items for repair, etc. The Survivor can always find more later down the road.
·Many objects have a limited durability and will eventually break from usage. Repair items that you want to keep, cook meat before it rots, eat it before it goes bad, etc.
·If the Survivor uses a motor vehicle, always keep an eye on the fuel gauge. It is recommended to use motorcycle until the Survivor reaches survivor camps for fuel consumption efficiency. Do not wander with motorized vehicles, have a clear objective, and plan ahead to save fuel.
·Rafts and boats do not break down, but only work on bodies of water such as coasts, rivers, oceans and swamps.
·Need to cross roads but you're on a full motorboat? Was cruising around the lake but suddenly it's winter and everything froze? Do some camp hopping. Drop everything, walk to the edge of your camp, pick all of them up, the old camp will disappear and a new one will appear with you in the center. Rinse and repeat until you reach your planned destination. This will help you carry tons and tons of items across map, provided that you're not bored to death.
·Beware of weather effects and natural disasters such as earthquakes, blizzards, dust storms, acid rain, lightning etc. Details about these effects can be found on the top right corner by tapping the time and weather symbols.
·You can do auto-hunt early game with around 150-250HP without armor equipped. Usually this can be accomplished by using some Strapping Lad food buff and Bryocarm to push your HP over the cap. The only thing that will wear out is weapon durability and ammo so just drop most weapon except a good knife/spear when you auto for hunt. Never auto for difficult combat events
·If your health increases too slowly, you may consider taking some medicine, such as a healing salve or Bryocarm. If you can, use foods rather than medicine to heal the Survivor. Foods like pasta with ground beef or pickled vegetables can help.
·Health will slowly decrease when your energy levels reach 0. You can fast for a while to save food, let health dip, then eat, drink and sleep to recover health.
·You can receive injuries if your armor hit point falls below 40%.
·If you are having issues with carrying capacity and over-carrying, sorting your inventory by Weight can help you see if there is anything in particular causing an issue (such as why are you carrying 2 tires before you even have a bicycle??)
