Last week we got a vague announcement from Pete Wentz about what is presumably his new band, Black Cards. (Or, rather, Bl4ck C4rds, if you’re going by their website.) Well, in a totally weird twist, Craig Owens has posted a video of the band playing the song “Club Called Heaven,” a snippet of which also plays on Black Cards’ website. Owens uploaded the minute-and-a-half video on his Vimeo page late last week, but that still doesn’t explain exactly who this band is.
The video camera pans around the room where the band is playing, showing only their feet. There’s clearly a keyboardist, guitarist, bassist (who is wearing the kind of oversized Nikes that Wentz is known to fashion), drummer and female singer in the room. But there is still no real clue as to who the musicians are. The video ends with an ornate logo for the band, displaying what are probably some hints about the band’s identity. A banner at the bottom of the logo reads: “Healing Souls Since 1979,” which happens to be the year Wentz was born.
So, really, what’s going on here? It seems possible that Black Cards is a collaboration of some sort between Wentz and Owens, especially since Owens recently announced he has signed with Wentz’s label Decaydance. Many fans are also speculating that the female singer is Greta Salpeter, formerly of The Hush Sound. (Although she’s been touring and recording with her new band so we’re not so sure).
