Hispania Racing - European GP Preview
June 19th
Bruno Senna, Race driver #21:
“I am really looking forward to the Grand Prix in Valencia because it is a circuit where I had a good performance in GP2 series in 2008. The circuit is difficult with some very technical corners but the biggest challenges are the bridge, which is very narrow and bumpy, and the last corner, into which you arrive at very high speed. Then, you have to slow the car down turning into the hairpin. On this circuit, it is very important to find the right setup for tight slow corners and good traction. As it is not a very high downforce circuit, we may be able to have a competitive weekend again and I hope we will continue having good races.”

It was the first day of the second home race for Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team at the Valencia Street Circuit. In the sunny first session, test and reserve driver Christian Klien was called into action for the second time this season for the Spanish team. He did 14 laps and a best lap time of 1.47.343. Bruno Senna was running in the second car and ended up 21st (1.47.123). Due to a drive boot damage, the Brazilian had to stop at the end of the first practice, while the Austrian had a gear box problem. In the afternoon, Karun Chandhok was back in the car again and did 21 laps, clocking a best time of 1.44.566. Bruno Senna added 24 more laps and was able to improve his morning lap times (1.44.095).
Dr Colin Kolles, Team Principal:
“Today’s results were not significant for us because we concentrated on our works for tomorrow and Sunday. In the morning session, Christian Klien had a gearbox problem and Bruno Senna a problem with a drive boot. As a precaution, we investigated the problem Christian had in the morning on Bruno’s car and that’s why Bruno started late into the second session. But at the end of practice two, we could already work on the program for tomorrow and for Sunday.”
Bruno Senna, Race driver #21:
“The first session was difficult because of the track conditions. It was very slippery and therefore not easy to drive. But the grip level improved in the afternoon and the lap times got better. / We could do our quickest lap on the option tyres and now we have to focus on the qualifying.”

Hispania Racing - European GP Race
June 27th
Weather: Sunny – air temperature 27°C, track temperature 45°C
Race: 57 laps
Track length: 5.419 km ---
Karun Chandhok F110-03 #20 19th
Bruno Senna F110-02 #21 20th
For the third time this season, the Spanish Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team was able to finish the race with both cars. The Spanish team added more valuable experience in Valencia and was able to continue fighting for positions with other teams. After a hard-fought race, Karun Chandhok crossed the line in 19th position, and Bruno Senna ended up 20th. Because of a damaged front wing, which occured when Bruno respected the waved blue flags which were shown to him and Timo Glock, who was behind, the Brazilian had to do an unplanned second pit stop. This incident with Bruno Senna and Timo Glock is still under investigation by the stewards.
Dr Colin Kolles, Team Principal:
“We started on different strategies into the race. Bruno started on prime tyres and Karun was on options. We decided to do Karun’s pit stop during the safety car period and to win some positions thereby, as the Virgins were on a different strategy. Unfortunately, there were two incidents where both drivers’ front wings were damaged.”
Bruno Senna, Race driver #21:
“It was a frustrating race today. Unfortunately, there was the incident with Timo Glock when my front wing was damaged. This happened during the blue flag we both got for a lapping car. But it is good to finish the race again after not having finished the last three.”
