The statues were made available for public viewing at a ceremony on Friday (December 24) at 11:30am. The bronze statues are entitled Love Song Statues, and they were made by sculptor Lee Geung-beom, who is also a professor at Hongik University. They were installed on the side of the Metasequoia Walk in Namie Island, a famous scene in A Winter Sonata. The main characters from the TV series were produced life size in order to provide visitors the enjoyment of taking pictures with the characters. The province hopes that it will become a hot tourist attraction. Journalists from NHK of Japan broadcasted the drape ceremony on Friday, which reflects the intense interest on the TV series by the Japanese public. A provincial official stated, “We got the idea of installing the bronze sculptures from the tourists taking pictures in front of the TV series poster. This is a joint-project with Namie Island.” The province plans to put efforts into riding on the tide of Korean Wave through various projects including “Love Festival: Lovers’ Day with Winter Love Song” scheduled for December 31. 2004.12.24
