True, one shouldn't generalise. Nor should one rely overly on rankings. However, I also want to answer the question posed by the OP, which inevitably forces me to make some broad statements about both universities from my personal experience.
First of all, I'm surprised that the overwhelming opinion tends to think Monash is overrated and that 'Deakin is overall a better university'. May I ask who these people are? Are they prospective employers from your home country? Or your friends at MIBT (but you haven't gone there yet, have you?)? Of course, my tone gives away my opinion that I think the situation is CLEARLY vice-versa. However, we are talking about Monash Caulfield (as opposed to Clayton), which means we are talking about a Bachelor of Business or at least anything but a Bachelor of Commerce. While I don't dispute that the content of both courses may be very similar, the 'prestige' factor is what counts, right? Ask any local student if they'd prefer a Bachelor of Commerce over a Bachelor of Business from Monash and you'd get my drift.
So in that sense, there might be room for comparison between Deakin's BComm and Monash's BBus.
Without venturing into a massive discussion about the merits or demerits of either course, let me just say this. If you ever had the opportunity to come across one of those graduate intake data at multinational corporations (thinking PwC, E&Y, KPMG, Deloitte here [forget the rest like Pitcher Partners, BDO Kendalls, Grant Thorton... since I haven't seen their data anyway]), which I have, you'll find that in every 100 graduate intake, around:
- 45 are from Melbourne University
- 35 are from Monash University

- 8 are from Latrobe University
- 6 are from RMIT University
- 5 are from Deakin University
- 1 are from Victoria University
While I haven't seen the intakes for all firms in all years, I have seen at least 5 of them in the past 4 years and I believe this was a fairly accurate reflection of what I saw.
Now you've flagged your lack of interest in an accounting and advisory firm. Fair enough. You mentioned finance (which I take to mean banking and finance as opposed to the common use of the word to refer to internal audit in the industry).
So in that sense, let's analyse the situation. Again, this is all from personal experience so what I say may not be necesarilly reflective of the true situation overseas, but I very much doubt that.
Looking at a respectable investment bank's intake for Asia Pacific (which means Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore) this year, there were about 11 recruits from Australia. Let me confidently assure you, the only ones offered a position from Victoria are from Monash and Melbourne. The same can be said about most front office positions in any local office (meaning Sydney or Melbourne). Again, I can't speak authoritatively for all (but if we keep throwing this line around no one will ever answer your question).
However, here's the twist at the end of my post. I believe that all these Monash recruits were students of BComm double degree students. I have no data and nothing to back this up from my personal experience, as I didn't go around asking people if they did a BComm or BBus degree or whether they're from Clayton or Caufield. However, based on my humble opinion, if I were to make an educated guess I'd dare say very few would be BBus students.

So, OP, to answer your question. I must say I wholeheartedly disagree with the assessment that a Deakin BComm would be a better first step for your career than a Monash BComm. However, a Monash BBus might not be rated too differently from a Deakin BComm from an employer's perspective, at least in the field of banking and accounting. To give Monash the benefit of the doubt though, I have advised all my Deakin friends to give Monash's BBus a shot even if they miss a spot on Monash's BComm.
I don't go to Monash so might not get everything right. From what I know, the BBus is a specialised degree. You can take, for example:
BBus (Accounting)
BBus (Banking and Finance)
BBus (Management)
BBus (Economics)
There's more... in fact there's probably more than when I was in high school. But I think you get the picture. The BBUs is taught in Caulfield, which is not the main campus of Monash but a campus which specialises in business.
The catch is, there's a BComm at the Clayton campus which is a 3-year degree. Most students can major in two areas in BComm (for example, you might major in finance and accounting or finance and economics or management and economics). If you plan your subjects well, you might be able to get 3 majors.
On the other hand, BBus (X) takes 3 years. If you want to do the equivalent of a double major like BComm, you'll need to do a double degree, BBus (X)/BBus(Y), for 4 years.
Ok so that's the description.
Now let's talk about what it really means. I can be really harsh or frame this really nicely. But I'll be harsh for the fun of it. From an undergraduate perspective (at least according to people I have discussed this with which are all local BComm students at various Victorian universities - so no lecturers or employers), the BBus is for people who couldn't get into the real thing at Clayton. Why would you want to do a BBus (Accounting)/BBus (Finance) for 4 years when you can do a BComm, majoring in finance and accounting, in 3 years. Same qualifications. Actually, no. If you went out and looked at the people getting jobs at PwC, you'd find 90% of the Monash recruits are BComm graduates.

Another thing to note is that the BComm is the harmonised degree across Australia. I don't think many of the traditional universities offer BBus. If you looked at UNSW, USyd, Melb, ANU you'd find the degree offered is BComm. Now the fact that Monash offers a BComm on its main campus and makes this BBus thing and splits what could be one degree into 100 degrees really does raise a question mark about the purpose of the Caufield campus.
Finally, as a local student, I still recall how demand for BComm was much higher than BBus (this is reflected by our univesity entrance exam score entry requirements).
Which is why I said, I really don't know if the BBus is that much more respected than a BComm at Deakin. But Monash is Monash.
