Michael Jackson's children have become so close to his sister Janet they have started calling her "Mama".
Michael's 80-year-old mother Katherine became the three children's legal guardian after the singer's death in June. But she has admitted to Janet she finds it hard to keep up with her three grandchildren.
A source close to the family said: "Katherine does the best she can for those kids. But it's really Janet who has become the main force in their lives. They absolutely adore her."
The source said the 43-year-old singer came up with the name "Mama Janet" because it served the purpose without giving the impression she had taken over from Katherine.
"Janet is really careful not to step on her mother's toes because there has been a bit of a battle among the Jackson women over who should raise the kids," the source added.
Recent reports have said that both Jacko's elder sisters - La Toya, 53, and Rebbie, 59 - want to step into Katherine's place if she dies.
'Janet is closest to 11-yearold Paris, who is delighted to have a mother figure in her life after years of only occasional contact with biological mum Debbie Rowe. The source said: "Paris adores Janet and the two will talk Close: for hours. Janet often visits around dinner time and cooks with the kids.
"A few weeks ago she took Paris on a trip to help pick out clothes for the new school year, even though she's educated at home."
The Jacksons have yet to decide whether to let Paris, her 12-year-old brother Prince Michael and youngest Blanket, seven, watch the documentary, This Is It. The movie which is released worldwide on Wednesday tells the story of Jacko's last weeks as he rehearsed for his doomed London comeback gigs.
The source said: "It's hard for them to see all the promotional stuff about their dad's last performance. But Prince has already said he wants to see it. And I think the family are likely to let the kids see a private screening."
The children are living live with Katherine at the family compound in Encino, California.
Detectives are still investigating Jackson's death in June 25. LA police are reportedly preparing to charge his personal doctor Conrad Murray, who was with the singer when he died.
The county coroner has ruled the star's death was homicide.
