The new Plastic Tree released their first single “枭 / Fukuro” on June 10th 2009 and performed a free show on the outdoor stage at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo the same day. The show was hastily arranged, but it had long been one of the band's dreams to play there. Before their second show at Nippon Budokan in August, titled “Tent”, Plastic Tree liberated their music into the open air, letting nothing get in their way. 

There were still more than 30 minutes to go before opening time, but many people had already gathered at Yoyogi Park to wait for the band to arrive, wearing smiles on their faces. Some of the fans talked about “Fukuro”, while others just chatted on happily about the members. Just past opening time there was an announcement that also drew attention from passers-by in the park, and soon BIG LUCK appeared on the stage to speak to the audience. As he called the members of Plastic Tree to the stage, the audience roared with mixed screams from both men and women. The band appeared bowing, and each took a microphone to answer a question from BIG LUCK about the band's enthusiasm for the event. 
“Thank you for coming,” said Akira. “It looks the weather is holding up. Please stay with us till the end and enjoy yourselves!” 
“Thanks for taking the trouble to come over,” followed Ryutaro. “Hopefully it won't rain so we can enjoy it.” 
“It's our free show today,” said Tadashi. “Thank you. We're gonna make it!!” 
The audience let out laughter as the members spoke casually in their usual way. Unfortunately the sky was cloudy and some weather forecasts had even warned of rain, causing the band to worry about the weather during the show. Then Tadashi took the microphone at a question about their single “Fukuro”. 
“We've given our fans a hard time in a way, so that's one of the reasons why we chose this song,” said Tadashi. 
He hadn't said much, but some of the audience clapped quietly to his words.

Three women, guests and fans of the band, then appeared on stage: Mikie Hara, who often appears on TV programs and commercials; Tan-tan Hayashi, currently appearing on a TV drama; and Emi Takei, a model under an exclusive contract to girls' fashion magazine SEVENTEEN. They handed bouquets to the band who looked embarrassed, while the audience smiled and clapped warmly at the scene. The guests and the band had a photo session and a chat show for a while with their backs to the audience, who occasionally called the names of the members and received a wave from them. But soon the band disappeared backstage to get ready for the show. 
About five minutes later some background sound effects began to fill the park, starting from soft little sound that could have died away at any moment, to gradually increasing in volume until they became loud enough to be heard anywhere in the park. The band again appeared on the stage amid the comforting sound effects, and this time looked far more energized for a show than they had only minutes ago. The audience roared much louder too, which eventually turned to a burst of shouts calling the names of the members.

“Hi, we're Plastic Tree.” 
The show started from Ryutaro's greeting, followed by their new single “Fukuro” which was released on that very day. Gentle vocals echoed in drumbeats that made the audience's eardrums vibrate even though on the open-air stage it sounded as if they came directly from the drummer without speakers. Tadashi's bass blended with the drums and created deep, heavy sounds. The members didn't move from their spots and increased their paces to put on a performance so powerful that nobody would believe that it was their first show as newly-reborn Plastic Tree. The audience raised their fists and danced along with the music in their usual way, too. 
As the music continued without a pause after the first song, Ryutaro and Akira surged forward and the audience raised their fists toward the stage. “涙腺回路 / Ruisen Kairo” began with guitars of Ryutaro and Akira, adding color to the site under a cloudy sky. The scene glittered as if it was a beautiful sunny day. 
Tadashi played a powerful bass line, bending down as he played at the left side of the stage, while Akira got the audience more excited with his aggressive guitar. Then the members all turned to the drummer and swayed their bodies dynamically along to the deep heavy beats. The drums and bass grew more powerful as if to compete with one another, and Ryutaro shouted out without a microphone as if to let his feelings reach directly out the audience. The heart-wrenching moment was soon smoothed gently away by Tadashi's bass beats.

“Um, hi, we're Plastic Tree.” Ryutaro took a pause to speak to the audience after “Ruisen Kairo” finished. “It's a fine day today… It's good the weather could stay calm, isn't it? I'm happy to be able to be here, as I've always wanted to play (at Yoyogi Park). A free live show has great value, doesn't it? …Doesn't it?!” 
“It does!” shouted the audience, showing a sense of unity in response to his calls. 
“I've run out of things to talk about, so (will go on the next song) ‘リプレイ / replay'.” 
When Ryutaro muttered “Replay” the site was dominated by silence, leaving the aggressiveness of the previous song completely behind. Akira's gentle guitar and Ryutaro's vocals overlapped with drums and bass in the music that became increasingly powerful, as if it reflected the band's feelings. Akira occasionally bent down to play the chord, earning envious stares of the audience, and Ryutaro jumped around on the stage singing warm gentle vocals that sounded almost wistful.

“Yoyogi, you can play more, can't you? You'd be kind enough to play more, right?” Ryutaro put down his guitar and gripped the microphone with his hands and spoke to the audience with his childish voice, receiving a response from the crowd who eagerly raised their fists. The roar got louder as Tadashi's bass and Akira's guitar created deep heavy beats. 
“ヘイトレッド・ディップイット / Hate red, dip it” began with much louder sounds that made the audience dance around crazily. Tadashi stepped forward to the edge of the stage and gave the audience the finger to get them even more fired up. At his side Ryutaro climbed up on the platform that was placed at the center of the stage and sang into a microphone he gripped with his hands. He looked almost fragile, or it might have been due to his unique style of singing. Ryutaro jumped from the platform up to where the drum set was while the other members rushed around the stage as if to explode with their emotions. All the people who visited the park were drawn into their music and stopped by to listen. As Ryutaro bent down and shook his head, the audience mimicked him and started to shake their heads, leading to a scene that blew away the cold of the rainy season and got the place completely heated up with excitement.

“Yoyogi!” cried out Ryutaro, with the innocent expression of a naughty boy on his face. “Let's play more!” 
His shouts kicked off the last song of the show, “メランコリック / Melancholic”. Each member returned to his place and played melancholic melodies that remained the same as the past, and attracted the whole audience. Ryutaro picked up the guitar again and started to play ear-piercing riffs while the drums and Tadashi's bass created aggressive, low beats. The audience stood still and stared as Tadashi bent into a bow so deep that his bass touched the floor, shaking his head as if to pour all his power into his bass. It seemed that most people just concentrated on the music. When the last sound echoed, the audience started to call the names of the members who put down their instruments.

“I've had the best time today,” said Ryutaro. “Thank you. We'll be on the tour and waiting for you at Budokan at the end of it.” 
Akira and Tadashi smiled at his words then the band walked off the stage waving to the audience. Soon BIG LUCK came out on the stage but the roar demanding for an encore lasted until it was clear that the show was over. 
“Let's continue this at Budokan!” 
The shouts prompted applause from the audience and the show finished. 
With this successful free show, the new Plastic Tree will play their second show, “Tent”, at Nippon Budokan on August 30th, taking their first step forward before playing at this finest venue. There is no way we can miss them continuing to create music as great in the past, progressing further into their future.
