Chun-Li SFV Season 5 Change Overview
Hazanshu - VSkill II - DO NOT USE
Meant to be an anti-fireball tool. It’s not fireball invincible so it gets hit by fireballs during startup. The hurtbox is huge when coming down so it trades with fireballs it has already gone well beyond. -4 on block. No combos on hit. This move is actually broken/unfinished and I’d highly suggest to not use it. I’m not going to elaborate on it. It’s an unfinished move and functionally serves no purpose in Chun’s arsenal in its current state. If it gets patched so it actually goes through fireballs properly, then we will revisit it. In the meantime, Please pick VSkill I.
Lightning Legs
HK Legs
H Hyakuretsukyaku (Normal/V-Trigger I)
①Changed the final hit to cause blowback knockdown.
②Reduced the blowback air time, if hits 1-5 hit an airborne opponent
(normal only).
③Reduced the blowback air time and distance if the final attack hits an
airborne opponent.
HK Legs now knocks down
+29 on QR and
+3
4 on BR
Dash once then walk up and react to which rise they do
Makes it less important to be able to do st.mp, cr.mk xx SBK since HK Legs gets full oki now
The most important consequence to this is it combos from cr.mk in neutral at max range at the latest possible cancel window and gets full knockdown, oki, and pressure.
Previously Chun had to either have charge in neutral (greatly hindering her movement) or have meter in neutral (Greatly hindering her damage in combos) to get knockdown off cr.mk in neutral.
Chun-Li can now use her cr.mk like Karin in neutral, greatly improving Chun’s ground game.
Air juggles into HK Legs are not affected. She has the same oki as before in this case.

Normal Pushback
Frame Traps
Standing MP (Normal/VTrigger I)
①Reduced the pushback on block.
This makes her st.mp pressure better (walk in throw as well as frame trapping with cr.mk). In combination with the changes to cr.lp, her frame traps have gotten better.
Cr.lp, st.mp, cr.mk is now a tight frame trap against opponent trying to walk back. Previously, you could walk out of the cr.mk and it wouldn’t hit. Now it will hit.
Tick Throws & Light Combos/Pushback
Crouching LP (Normal/VTrigger I)
①Reduced the collision box for the 4th and 5th frames.
②Increased the pushback distance on hit.
③Increased the pushback distance on block.
Crouching LK (Normal/VTrigger I)
①Reduced the collision box for the 4th frame.
②Increased the pushback distance on hit.
③Increased the pushback distance on block.
Cr.lp and cr.lk got the same changes. To make it simple, when cr.lp or cr.lk are used point blank, they have less pushback than if they were used point blank in previous seasons. This means she now has a true tick throw off of cr.lp and cr.lk that doesn’t require any walking
Because of the increased pushback, the following combos no longer work:
Cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lk
Alternative that works now: cr.lk, st.lp, cr.lk
Cr.lk, cr.lp, st.lk
Cr.lk, cr.lp, st.lp
In VT1, you can no longer do … xx LK Legs, cr.lp, cr.mk xx SBK
Because of the pushback changes, the cr.mk always whiffs.
There is no starter move that will make this combo work. I believe this is an oversight on Capcom’s part as this has been her non-VS1 bnb in VT1 ever since season 1. This means that choosing VT1 + VS2 is absolutely not advised. If you’re using VT1, PLEASE pick VS1 (although VS2 in its current state is literally broken and I’d never advise using it)

Stand Fierce
Standing HP (Normal/VTrigger I)
①Disadvantage on block reduced from -5F to -4F.
②Increased the pushback distance on block.
③Expanded the backwards hurtbox during recovery.
Basically only affects the Chun matchup heavily (Chun could punish this with CA)
Pushes the opponent back more on block making it hard for the opponent to pressure Chun if the block a st.hp. Not a huge change.

Forward Throw
Koshuto (Forward Throw)
①Added 2F of recovery on hit.
②Decreased the separation distance after the throw.
This puts her corner throw game in line with most other footsies characters
She has her midscreen fthrow dash up into throw back if they don’t press anything. Secret buff potentially
After fthrow, you can do st.hk and it will be perfectly meaty. If it CCs, it will be +23 (instead of +21). Unfortunately there is no good way to get more damage off the extra frames. The best thing you can do is dash up, cr.hp xx VS1 (dash up, b.hp xx VS1 is never close enough for the VS1 to combo) but this is the same as dash up, st.mp xx VS1 damage-wise. This also relies on the opponent doing a wakeup standing button when they should do a wakeup crouching button instead.
Misc.
Jumping Strong A2A
Jumping MP (Normal)
①Eased the combo count.
L Airborne Hyakuretsukyaku (Normal/V-Trigger I)
①Eased the height restriction when performed as a cancel from jumping
MP.
②Increased the blowback time for the 2nd attack when performed as a
cancel from jumping MP.
Can now do air-to-air j.mp xx LK Legs, EX Legs/Super

Instant A2A Air-Throw QoL
L Spinning Bird Kick (Normal/V-Trigger I)
①Will not be performed if LP is input at the same time as the command is

Jump back instant air throw will now always come out instead of LK SBK

Vitality Increased from 950 to 975.

①Reduced the hurtbox that appears before the hitbox active frames.
Harder to counter-hit. Buff
Yosokyaku (Normal/V-Trigger I)
①Emphasized the priority input when performing a special move cancel.
Now easier to do stomp into air legs
Hoyokusen (CA)
①Changed the amount of EX Meter gain that the opponent gets on block
from 0 to 3 × 16 + 2.
