Say what you want about Daughtry's decision to play clubs to promote sophomore disc Leave This Town in its early weeks, but it's almost always better to know you'll sell a place out rather than to take the chance of leaving empty seats in a larger venue. The band certainly could have sold more tickets in Nashville, but the several hundred people who packed themselves into the sold-out Cannery Tuesday were the Daughtry faithful, the kind who knew every lyric of even the album cuts and bought their tickets as soon as they went on sale. No casual fans or curiosity seekers here -- these were the diehards.
Daughtry's new album has several Nashville ties -- he wrote songs with locals like Chris Tompkins and Brett James, and Vince Gill sings on Tennessee Line. (Also, a local reporter Twittered that both Carrie Underwood and underwear model Justin Gaston attended the show.) If any of his Music City collaborators came out, Chris Daughtry didn't give them any special attention during his set. He did, however, sing the two Leave This Town songs -- Supernatural and Open Up Your Eyes -- written by opening act David Hodges, the former Evanescence keyboardist who has become a favorite co-writer of American Idol alumnae.

Chris doesn't talk much between songs, but he did make several references to the temperature inside the club ("Let me know if y'all are about to pass out," he said before starting No Surprise). He repeatedly sprayed water on the audience members nearest the stage and asked at one point for bartenders to bring bottled water for the crowd. Halfway through the 15-song set, drummer Joey Barnes and guitarist Josh Steely were shirtless. Sorry, gals, Chris may have sweated through his black T, but it stayed on the whole night.
