“This is a photo from “雅楽-gagaku-“. My first work.
Starting your solo career is a kind of independence, right? Independence from a ‘band’. So, I think this comes closest to my current situation of “back to basics”. It also links to NEO TOKYO SAMURAI BLACK.
It’s a crow motif; you know, crows sometimes make a murder but they can a1so live alone. I thought it was cool at that time. I made up my eyes and wore feathers like a crow. You can’t see that here, but now you know. This was the start, my very beginning.

“This is a couple of releases after “雅楽-gagaku-“; I think. I titled it because it was just like “ジングルベル（仮）/Jingle Bell (temporary)”. So I rented a costume like that. (temporary). (laughs) That was it.”

“This is “自分革命-2003-/Jibun Kakumei -2003-“ and I released it before Shibuko show. (Shibuko is short for Shibuya Kokaido, which was the former name of C.C.Lemon Hall.) I sang about inner dialogue and how I face myself for the first time in this song.”

“This is “On the first live”. I couldn’t sing or perform well. I really didn’t know which way was left or right. But the set and casting were gorgeous. The tickets sold out in one day. That was my real start.”

“I think I did this around the time of Shibuko. It was a limited release that I did, like, just to have fun.. It’s called “Tariraritarara♪” to be like “you don’t have to be serious, do you?” optimize – It’s great to be happy-go-lucky. This is a song like that.”

“This is “Coo quack cluck-ク・ク・ル-/Coo quack cluck –Ku・Ku・Ru-“; it came out before “雅流-galyuu-“. And there was a film called “俺様/Oresama”, I starred in that. I made this song to be the movie’s theme song. Yeah… it’s a song about a bird. I became a singer, no longer a guitarist. I sealed off the ‘guitarist me’ and wrote this song with the image of a bird that kept singing though one of its wings had broken off. This is the artist photo for that.”

“This is like “go for it!” It’s from when Pata-san and Shinya-san played back-up for me. You know, I had an image of kingdom and neon feelings. I made this song for a concert at Yaon (Hibiya Yagai Ongakudo). I was aggressive at that time, you see.”

“This is “常胜街道/Josho Kaido”. When I was indies. It’s from my second album, “雅流-galyuu-“. I think this was before a concert at Yaon. It came out after a show at Shibuko. I used an image like 常胜街道/Josho Kaido ‘victory road’, and wrote it when I was going to be performing at Shibuko, Yaon and Budoukan. I was just like… running ahead back then.”

“This was for my first tour, “东京脱走。/Tokyo Dasso.”, so that’s why there’s an exit sign, it wasn’t like I was a prisoner. I went to Asia to defect; that was kind of my theme.”

“My last indies work., from before “ロックの逆袭/Rock no Gyakushu”. Yeah, after “あしタ、元気ニなぁレ。/Ashita, Genki ni Naare.” came that one. (“ロックの逆袭/Rock no Gyakushu”)
-The images are so different.
“At that time I’d already decided to make my debut on a major label, so I wanted to release acoustic, pop and natural stuff while I was still indies, then work harder after my major debut.”
-I see. 
“Yeah. Usually, it’s opposite, right? After you’ve done all what you want to do in indies, you do some pop things on a major label. I tried to do the opposite. It was released a week before its scheduled date; I don’t know why I did such things, but I did that a lot at the time. In the song, I sang like “You can just follow me, that’s all. Nothing special

“This was my debut in the majors, it’s called “ロックの逆袭/Rock no Gyakusyu”. I was full of energy. I had a show at Budokan and appeared in the media and on TV more. All I had was “energy”. You know. I think my soul-searching from that time had a huge impact on me even now. Honestly, I didn’t have skills as an artist back then, just energy. My fans’ energy, just theirs. Power.”

“This came after my major debut. “Freedom Fighters”. Back then the company was judging me, and a lot of things were happening. You know… I think I had the hardest time then. There was company stuff and all this other negative stuff, so I was just going like “I will not lose!” Fight. “I’m free”. I had a ball and chain. This is a song that I sang about that kind of feeling.”

“”雅主义”, the album I released after “Freedom Fighters”. It was my third major album., and I made it in just three weeks. It was harsh, I was like “AAAAaaaahhhhh” and made it.”
-In the morning and at night?
“Yeah, all the time. A lot of it was done at home. In contrast with my situation, it was fun festival rock. I made “阿呆祭－アホまつり－/Aho matsuri” and “胜利のV-ROCK!!/Shori no V-ROCK!!” around then. I wanted to forge my own neo-visualism, and this was the result.”

“This is “Kekkonshiki no Uta”. I made this for one of my friends’ wedding and released it. This is when I started doing pop.”

“This is from PS Carnival in 2005, around the time of “雅主义/Miyavi Shugi”. Only this one was different for me. I wore an Adidas tank top. (laughs) You know… I was not the facilitator, but I lead others. Here and there.”

“This was before “Dear my friend”, and after “结婚式の呗/Kekkonshiki no Uta.” I think it’d been 5 or 6 years since my major debut. I made the song itself when I was 16, when I was doing research on a ‘pop image’. It was the same for “Dear my friend”. I realized the image in the song and emphasized the song more than its characteristics.”

“How many since my major debut? After “セニョール　セニョーラ　セニョリータ/ Señor Señora Señorita” maybe? I went sky diving in Hawaii and used film of it for the music video. I started to go overseas and I wrote this song abroad like “We share the same sky.” I tried to play as naturally as possible.”

“This is a song called “君に愿いを/Kimi ni Negai o” , it followed “Dear my friend”. This song represents “MYV☆POPS”. It was almost like a cosplay series. I think it’s better to have it to express the song. Kurt Cobain wore these same pajamas.”
