Michael made an appearance yesterday at the Aberdeen, Maryland Boys and Girls Club. This was his first appearance since news of his arrest was released to the public. Michael said that he had come to begin an exercise in contrition he plans on repeating in the future to apologize to those that he was a role model for."I wanted to get in front of a group where I'd been working with these guys for the past few years and I know the kids. I wanted to get a point across to make sure that everybody makes the proper decision. I let them down, as well as a lot of others across the country, and I wanted to share the mistake that I made and try to prevent it from happening to any other people. To be able to be there with kids that I know, and kids that I've worked with before, really meant a lot.""One of my biggest things is that I want to get in front of as many young adults, as many kids, to get across my experience and the importance of never getting behind the wheel after anything to drink. I think drinking and driving — it's not OK once. It's a dangerous thing, and it's unacceptable. You never want to have this happen to anybody. ... It's something that I have to face, taking responsibility for this and really taking it head on." When Michael was asked about still being a role model for kids he responded with, But he said he hopes he still can be a role model for children. "I hope, but I've let a lot of people down, including myself. It is definitely an honor to be a role model for kids, and I hope to still be one and to have fans out there. Everybody makes mistakes. I wake up every morning and I say to myself, 'I made a mistake.' This is a mistake that I made, and I'm going to have to live with this for the rest of my life."
