DALLIS THE HAMMERAND THE SOLUTION OF FORT JOY
Dallis’ exploitsin the great war against the Black Ring gained her a reputation for integrityand toughness – and the nickname ‘The Hammer’, a moniker she cherishes astestament to her determination andidealism. Dallis persuaded Alexandar to banish the Sourcerers to the ruins ofFort Joy on the island of Reaper’s Eye. This ancient stronghold of thelong-dead Source King and renowned madman Braccus Rex became an internment campfor Sourcerers, where they could be kept from the people until a cure was foundfor their – and our – affliction. While the world rightly supports Alexandar’sfirm-but-gentle treatment of the Sourcerers, division within the Divine Ordercontinues to intensify. Paladintraditionalists – warriors drawn fromthe noblest families who regardthemselves as the direct successors of Lucian’s original warriors – seeSourcery as a powerful weapon – a weapongranted to a chosen few that they may better fight the Void. But the world haschanged, and the Order is now firmly in the grip of the Paladin’s rival branch, the Magisters – causing much resentment among the Paladins. Recruited from all walks of life regardless ofbreeding, social standing, or education, the Magisters represent safety andsecurity to the common folk. The Magisters, for their part, show Alexandar –and Dallis – the utmost loyalty (avaluable commodity in troubled times). There is a widespread belief in someareas that the Sourcerer danger must be dealt with firmly – especially as someSourcerers do not wish to wear the collar that keeps them safe. In cases likethese, the Magisters have been nothing if not firm with Sourcerers.
Lucian’s Remains
The debacle overthe choice of custodian of Lucian’s mortal remains was an early indication ofjust how sour relations between the Paladins and Magisters would become. ThePaladins, being the older and more illustrious branch of the Order, thought itonly right that they be the sole guardians of Lucian’s tomb. They beganconstruction on a cathedral in Arx – notably using telekinetic Source power tospeed the process. However, the Magisters felt that the role of guardingLucian’s tomb should fall to them, as they were rapidly becoming the dominantpresence within the Order. A confrontation within the holy city itselfthreatened to spill out of hand, forcing Bishop Alexandar to intervene. It was finally decided that Lucian’s remainscould indeed be placed in the Paladins’ cathedral, but the Magisters would bepermitted to establish a new headquarters in the city of Arx.
ALEXANDAR
The only true-bornson of Lucian the Divine, Alexandar was quick to assume control of the DivineOrder. Lacking his father’s experience, he aimed to surround himself with atalented group of counsellors. Of thoseconfidants, Dallis quickly became hisright hand, advising him in all things. Such an approach would seem outwardlylaudable, but what of the policies it has given rise to? I confess to somedisquiet at recent developments within the ranks of the Magisters whereinhumans are preferred over other races. Those who are called up to safeguard allthe people of the land should surely be drawn from all of the people of theland (even if humans are evidently superior to their dwarven, elven, and lizardcomrades). However, we must have faith that the Divine Order knows what isbest. After all, they lead our pursuitof divinity. Godwoken like his father before him, Alexandar will become thenext Divine and save the world from the encroaching Void. But while Divine Orderluminaries know the fact of Alexandar’s ascent to divinity, they do not knowthe how. His goal may be clear but, without Lucian’s guidance, his path is not.Alas, while Alexandar’s ascension now has the full support of the Divine Order, they did not always have such clarity ofpurpose. There was a time when the Order was open to, and even sought out, other Godwoken to compete in Alexandar’s quest for divinity.
Source Collars
Extraordinarydevices which prevent a Sourcerer from using their powers to endangerthemselves and those around them. There is, to his eternal credit, oneSourcerer who volunteered to wear the collar and provide a shining example toall: Alexandar himself. For few know the truth – while the people recite theEternal Prayer for the return of Lucian the Divine, Bishop Alexander of theDivine Order is, in fact, a Sourcerer. And more than that, he is Rivellon’sgreatest hope.
THE SEARCH FORDIvINITY
Determined, capable, and committed to the Divine Order’s ideals, Dallis began the searchfor the secret of divinity. At first sheworked with the Seekers – a unit within the Magisters who had been tasked withthe search for Godwoken. But the Seekers fell into disrepute following adisastrous error that led to a… well, let’s say it led to bloody catastrophe, and they were disbanded. Soon after, Dallis instituted a shift in the DivineOrder’s core beliefs – the search for Godwoken ended. It was declared that Alexandar would ascend. If rumours are to be believed, elements of the Seeker sect within the Orderremain determined to find Godwoken and aid them in their ascent.
