看看歌曲背景概念专辑《The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars》是David Bowie 在1972年6月在英国、同年9月在美国出版的一张概念专辑，被MelodyMaker杂志誉为20世纪70年代最具权威性的专辑。这张专集讲述了关于火星人Ziggy Stardust的故事，他从火星来到地球，要把人类从陈腐中解放出来。来到地球后，他通过努力成为了一位著名摇滚歌星。他是两性人，嗜服毒品，最终被纵欲和过度吸毒摧毁，被他所授意的那些歌迷杀死。有关这个神秘火星人注定命运的故事为David Bowie的所有歌迷所钟爱。这首歌是该专辑最后一首（就是BBR翻唱的这首），讲的是英雄迟暮，终于死去的故事。也是1973年的那场The Motion Picture的演出最后曲目，david bowie在唱完这首歌后宣布ziggy stardust死了，作为华丽摇滚运动终结的最重要标志，虽然后来david bowie又创造了许多伟大的专辑，但他已经走向了下坡路。
