Lorde was the guest on the premiere episode of “The Rookie Podcast,” hosted by Rookie founder Tavi Gevinson. They discussed Lorde’s forthcoming sophomore album Melodrama (due this summer via LAVA/Republic). At one point, Lorde revealed a line from the record: “Bet you rue the day you kissed a writer in the dark.” She also played a demo of lead single “Green Light.” She explained that she and collaborator Jack Antonoff recorded the demo (called “Very First Green Light”) after seeing Florence and the Machine, and were inspired by the “physicality” of the pianist’s playing. She elaborated, “For any argument that is like, ‘oh, you know, she went pop,’ or whatever, it’s like, that’s just the inside of my brain, and that’s how a song like that is, literally, that’s how it enters the world and that’s how it, you know, goes out into the universe.”
Since sharing “Green Light” and announcing the record, Lorde has shared another track, “Liability.” She performed both songs on “Saturday Night Live,” donning a wedding dress for “Liability.” Recently, she sang a parody version of “Green Light” about Cadbury Creme Eggs.
她解释道她和合作的Jack Antonoff是在看了Florence and the Machine的表演、受到激情洋溢地钢琴手的表演,而录制的小样(原名Very First Green Light)。
