Nowadays, since the large amount of traffic has an obvious influence to society, some people argue there is only one way to reduce it, that is, reducing people’s need to travel from home for work, education or shopping, while many other people do not agree with this idea and claim that the way is not benifial and there are several ideas to solve the problem. I am in favor of the latter view. Although the former view makes some sence, it is only partly true. On the one hand, it can be clearly seen that the former view has many disadvantages. First, it costs both the government and the individuals abundand of money. Thus, it is hard to allocate money to contribute the social system. Second, many people have to look for jobs not far from their home. It leads more competition and less choices of jobs. Third, compared to the other ways, this idea is less beneficial. For instance, improving the public transport is a better way to promote people to travel by bus or train. Then, a more obvious improvement can be seen. On the other hand, reducing the need for people to travel too far contributes much to society. For one thing, less time is spent on the way home by people who go to work or school. Therefore, people’s pace of life can be slower so that the number of people who use vehicle decrease. Moreover, as people’s mind gets relaxed because of the reduced need, their working or learning efficiencies are promoted to increase. In summary, I agree that this view has some advantages, however, it is not the only way, nor the best way to reduce the large amount of traffic.
