Benedict Cumberbatch’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas will stew in discontent for an extra winter. Universal and Illumination announced the movie remake, based on the Dr. Seuss children’s book, has been pushed from Nov. 10, 2017 to Nov, 9, 2018.
Illumination — the masterminds behind Minions — unveiled plans for the film with Oscar-nominated Cumberbatch as its star during April’s CinemaCon. Producer Chris Meledandri described theSherlock actor’s voice as exuding “comedic wickedness while embodying vulnerability.”
Pete Candeland (Gorillaz) and Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) will direct the film, based on a screenplay by Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree).
Jim Carrey played the Grinch in Ron Howard’s 2000 live-action adaptation, which earned $345 million at the worldwide box office.
Cumberbatch plays the titular sorcerer in Marvel’s Dr. Strange, due in theaters Nov. 4.
