歌德派的金属乐已得到全面性的发展，不再跼限於单一风格，而歌德不单是一种音乐型态，它更是一种生活态度，歌德是一个可以让人逃离现实而进入的幻想世界，一个黑暗而浪漫的世界，歌德精神除了可以表现在音乐上，也同时表现在衣著、艺术和文学上，带有大量蕾丝的衣服、象徵浪漫的玫瑰，坟墓、吸血鬼、女巫，废墟、雕像、歌德大教堂等等，这些种种都是歌德的符号象徵。当然，纯就音乐上来说，一般喜好强烈直接的金属乐迷，或许会对速度缓慢、著重气氛发挥的歌德金属较难以接受，不过若是能从根本上去了解这种乐派的背景和其所欲呈现的意境，适度地调整一下自己的心态，或许就能体会到另一种不同的聆听感受与乐趣。
