Another interesting tid-bit from the interview we posted about earlier with the Russo brothers, where they go into great detail on themes and elements of Captain America: Civil War, is their interest in a Black Widow solo film!
On whether they would be interested in a Black Widow film, Joe Russo said:
“Hell yeah! We love that character!”
Anthony Russo quickly chimed in:
“And we love Scarlett [Johansson]!”
Joe Russo then added:
“We find that the character is one of if not the richest character in the Marvel universe. A very complex character, haunted by demons and her understanding of the world is fascinating. I think there is a lot that can be done with that character.”
Many fans (myself very much included) have been clamoring for a Black Widow solo movie. When the dates were originally announced for future Marvel films before the Phase 3 reveal, many speculated that we might finally be getting one. Those hopes were dashed - but the Russo's comments breath new life into the possibility!
Coming off the heat Disney/Marvel took for the lack of Black Widow merchandise in the run up toAvengers: Age of Ultron (not to mention the heat they took for the same thing with Rey and Star Wars: The Force Awakens), it would be a smart, prudent move on Disney/Marvel's part to give this character the solo project she deserves!
Until then, we will next see Black Widow when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.
