This is one of the legendary Mapogo male lions. At the time of this photo they were down to 2 males, late in 2012. They were run down and looking the worse for wear.
I never saw the 2 of them again after this.
They were an incredible coalition of male lions with a fierce reputation. There's a great documentary currently out on the lives of these males called "Blood Brothers". Be sure to check it out!
