本书是“百万英语阅读计划”丛书——英汉对照中级英语系列读物第I辑之4，适合已掌握1500基本英语词汇量（相当于初中毕业）的读者阅读。

内容简介
　《本生经》是印度的一部佛教寓言故事集，主要讲述佛陀释迦牟尼前生的故事。佛陀自说本生故事的主要目的，是透过种种故事、譬喻来教化弟子，因此本生经中，处处表现出道德的教训，醒世的箴言、寓言、格言、机智等。
本书选编了40篇本生经故事，都是人们耳熟能详、流传于世界各地的著名故事，如《猴子和鳄鱼》等。这些故事，对于成年人，也许有的略显稚气，但是，佛陀就是通过这些简单的故事来教化弟子的。透过这些故事，读者可以窥视佛教文化，同时也会从中得到一些人生启迪。
