(INTERVIEW) ‘THE GREAT FIRST WIVES’ JUNG YOONHYE “LEARNING ONE BY ONE, RIGHT NOW IS HAPPINESS”
Jung Yoonhye (25) started off splendidly as Kara’s sister group, Rainbow but the 6 years in the celebrity industry was not smooth like the start. The group did not rise with a ‘bang’ and Yoonhye who was standing in place did not stand out within the members who found their paths in entertainment, acting etc.
“I think I was unable to find a method to show a certain side of myself. I think many people couldn’t give me love after noticing me since I didn’t know myself well enough. It took me some time to know about myself. Because the first thought I had was ‘Why don’t they like me?’.”
During their first long hiatus, she didn’t move out of the dorm to the point people would tell her that she’d ‘grow roots in the dorm’. The concerns of her family grew and she didn’t want to face reality. After the time she didn’t want to do anything passed, she stood in front of the public without being prepared and felt dizzy when she was scolded.
“Ah, I had my debut difficultly. It is not time for me to be like this.”
The road she found after gaining conscience was acting. It was a conclusion she came up with after a long worry about what she can do well in and what she wanted to do the most. Jung Yoonhye started to move after finding her way. She’d learn scenarios and practice them to the point she’d consider herself ‘looking at all scenarios going around’.
Jung Yoonhye who was successfully wrapped up her first acting challenge on JTBC ‘Eldest’ last year, she opened up her second challenge to act as the only daughter ‘Han Gongjoo’ of parents Cho Kyung Soon (Kim Ji Young) and Han Ki Chun (Lee Jong Won) in the MBC drama ‘The Great First Wives’.
“As much as it’s a road I found late, I want to work hard on it. I have promoted in a girl group for 7 years and hear words that I do not look like an idol. This means that I have shown nothing and did not do my best. I think it’s about time for me to show something. I’m also trying to believe in myself.”
Jung Yoonhye’s character ‘Han Gongjoo’ is an immature 20 year old university student. She described her character as “A girl exactly that age who wants to look prettier than others, likes to pamper herself, wants many things, and likes to talk”.
It’s a role that doesn’t require a huge amount of acting and a common indispensable role that appears but Jung Yoonhye added her own color to create ‘Han Gongjoo’. She found the similarities to be a low voice that doesn’t suit the bright 20 year old, and the overly expressive expressions that doesn’t hesitate in looking bad.
Jung Yoonhye is acting alongside privileged acting veterans Kim Jiyoung, Lee Jongwon, Lee Bohee etc and said “Learning one by one, right now is happiness”. Her goal is to get a reliable reinforcement for future promotions through this drama.
“It’s a drama that mothers and fathers watch a lot. When I come back as Rainbow after looking at me favorably, I want to hear them say ‘That’s Gongjoo!’. The name is nice as well. When will I ever be called Gongjoo/Princess again.”
Yoonhye is expecting the growth of immature Han Gongjoo till December, the end of the drama.
“Till now I was a mean daughter by the side of a betraying father. But since I’m a girl who can’t do much, there will be a point where I will worry about the love I have for the family from my mother’s side. And naturally I think the relationship between ‘Mingyu’ (Choi Wonmyung) who has a crush on me will change too.”
