Lead writer Andy Hall and battle designer Simon Mann joined us for a chat about all things Total War: Warhammer, explaining how the franchise is changing as it adapts to the demands of fantasy units and magic.
Of course fans of the tabletop game will have their own desires when it comes to the factions represented in the game (there's currently four announced - the Empire, the Greenskins, the dwarfs and the Vampire Counts), and when we asked about the decisions that went into choosing the respective factions, this is what Hall had to say:
"It's very tempting to get everyone in, I mean there's fifteen current playable factions in Warhammer, but we didn't want to do breadth and give each one a shallow experience, we want to do justice to the Warhammer fans out there.
"So by choosing the races we have, we can go very deep with them, make sure we've got all the units, make sure we've got really deep skill trees for their generals."
"Saying that," Hall added, "the plan is to make sure that every Warhammer fan is happy, and this is the first game in the trilogy, and each project in that trilogy will be a standalone game."
Obviously feeling cheeky, we asked whether that was their way of confirming that all fifteen factions would be appearing in the game: "I'm definitely not promising anything. All I can say is we hope every Warhammer fan will be happy, and will see their race in there one day."
While that's not an official confirmation, it certainly suggests that the studio is planning to add in all of the playable factions at some point in the trilogy. The first of the three games is due out next year.
