Chinese Superstar Liu Ye on Gold Coast22 May 08The Gold Coast will star alongside Chinese superstar Liu Ye in his latest MTV music clip in a move to promote the Coast as a holiday destination in China.The 30 year old singer and award-winning actor was today at Main Beach filming his new video which showcases the Gold Coast and Tangalooma Resort, on Moreton Island.The video follows Liu as he searches for a beautiful Australian woman he spots on a boat.Tourism Queensland (TQ) chief executive Anthony Hayes said TQ’s Shanghai office had pounced at the chance when they heard a location was being sought for the famous popstar and actor, who last year broke into Hollywood with the film Dark Matter, also starring Meryl Streep.“Liu Ye is as famous in China as Justin Timberlake or Robbie Williams are in the west and he has millions of devoted fans, particularly women in the 20 to 40 age bracket,” Mr Hayes said.“The Chinese are one of Queensland’s fastest-growing international visitor markets and place a strong emphasis on celebrity power and this demographic is exactly who we want to target to come to Queensland.”

"The Chinese are one of Queensland's fastest-growing international visitor markets and place a strong emphasis on celebrity power and this demographic is exactly who we want to target to come to Queensland." Hayes said the single would also be released as a karaoke song. "You can't buy the type of publicity that will be generated for the Gold Coast by having images of the destination played on thousands of karaoke bar screens every night across the country," he said. The release of the single and music video will be accompanied by a media blitz in China showing Liu's Gold Coast images in its advertising campaign for the next year.
