The world is fullof superheroes. Since the 1930s, comic fans across the globe have read in aweas we’ve watched these men and women clad in tights battle the evil that wecouldn’t. From the Nazis to alien races, superheroes have protected the Earthand countless other universes from ultimate destruction time and time again.

Some heroes areflawed, some are ruthless, and some are naively optimistic, but every singlecharacter that appears on this list have certainly earned their keep. Picked bytheir cultural impact, character development, social relevance, general coolfactor, and importance of storylines, these are the best of the best.

PeterParker is unique amongst the cabal of top tier superheroes. He’s often beenseen as genuinely at fault for the death of friends or family. Even his originstory, where he allowed a criminal to go free out of selfishness, resulted inthe death of his Uncle Ben. This heavy guilt never eased up on Peter throughoutall of his days, and he spent his life trying to make amends for his actions.Yet, he remained human. He made all new mistakes. But the strength of Peter’scharacter lies in the fact that he would always try to correct them, learn fromhis past, and prevent others from doing the same. In many ways, Peter Parker isthe most tragic heroes of them all. He’s got immense intellect that couldbenefit the world a thousand times over, but he uses it to battle maniacs intights.

Despiteall of this, Spider-Man remains one of the most snarky and fun heroes inexistence. His cheesy banter during combat is always appreciated, and he’s ableto make light of even the most dire of situations. There’s never a dull momentwhen ol’ webhead is around, and there’s something to be said for an icon thatdoesn’t take himself too seriously.

WallyWest (The Flash)

He mightnot be the first Flash (or even the second), but Wally West made such an impactduring his tenure as Kid Flash -- then as big boy Flash after Barry Allen’sdemise -- that fans actually raged when news broke that Barry Allen would bereturning and once again taking back the mantle of the DCU’s main marathon man.

Much likeDick Grayson, Wally West is a character that has seen major growth since hisinception. He’s grown up, gotten married, had two kids, and discovered theSpeed Force, the psuedo-science explanation for where the speedsters’ powerscome from. Wally has also been a member of the Teen Titans, New Teen Titans andthe Justice League. Basically, Wally West is one of the DCU’s greatest heroes,even if he doesn’t rank as the original Scarlet Speedster.

However, what’s sogreat about Dick Grayson is that he’s one of the few comic book characters thathas actually shown substantial growth over the years -- both in age andcharacter -- since his introduction in 1940.

And probably his mostsignificant accomplishment: he’s nailed pretty much every hottie hero in theDCU. It’s a long list of bullet points on Dick Grayson’s superhero resume. Dickhas so many ties to so many heroes that if he were ever to die the implicationswould ripple throughout the entire DCU for years to come. Honestly, his deathcould have a larger impact on the DCU than Batman. That’s saying somethingabout his worth as a hero.

Superheroesoften live in a world of black and white morality with strict lines betweengood and evil. Rorschach doesn't, but he likes to believe he does. In theWatchmen universe, Rorschach alone carried on his crusade when all other heroeshad retired or signed up with the government. One has to admire hisdetermination, if not necessarily his methods. In the end, Rorschach waswilling to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that the truth was heard andthat humanity wouldn't be saved through compromise.
在黑与白，善良与邪恶明码标价的世界里，英雄总是正义的化身，道德的楷模。虽然罗夏自己相信自己做的都是

TheSpirit might have started out as a Sunday strip in a newspaper that was lookingto capitalize on the budding comic book industry, but now the characterrepresents one of the medium’s biggest influences for sequential, serializedstorytelling aimed at adults. Not too shabby when you consider the fact thatthese are just stories about a normal guy wearing a rinky-dink domino mask witha fetish for sleuthing. But in the hands of a master storyteller/artist likeWill Eisner, any character can become special. The Spirit is proof positive ofthat.
