这题目对于初２学生来说难度有点大，其实这是个动词不定式做目的状语的问题，这里的could和save没有关系，也是省略句，全句应该是这样Tom did what he could do to save the girl in the river.由于前面谓语动词有了did ，所以宾语从句可以省略动词do
