Source Games:
With Source games you can use any skin *(don't use an installer exe) but they may not work in all servers as sv_pure settings restrict modifications.
You can replaces sound files *(you may be blocked from some servers or your sounds may not work)
You can run Source games under wine on Linux
Client side plugins (source mod, lua sripts etc..) can be used but may require -insecure on servers to use them if they aren't signed by Valve.
Any console cheat can be used if the server has sv_cheats 1 set.
You can modify any file other than dll and exe files (vpk's are ok to edit)
简单的说就是在V社Source引擎下的游戏你可以修改自定义皮肤、声音、模型，并且在连接服务器的情况下可以使用外置的Lua及sripts脚本外加修改过的VPK文件，因为如果这些文件有问题游戏会不让你连接服务器。当然最简单的判断就是你没有修改过exe和dll文件。
所以在dota2上使用模型及声音替换之类的MOD是安全的，但是各位在使用MOD的时候要注意mod的安装方式以及文件，不能确定来源安全的exe安装型mod最好不要使用，带有dll及exe文件的mod千万不要安装。
