The writers said before the start of the season that they had found a way to reset the triangle. With Elena's good memories of Damon gone, she's not going to have him clouding her vision.
I'm going to reference this post which I saw the other day and that I thought hit the nail bang on the head about there being every possible way to bring Stelena back together. Infinite numbers of ways.

We all know that Elena's memory loss won't be permenant. Damon will be back by 6x06, I'm guessing. Definitely by 6x08. Elena's memories of Damon will return eventually so we can choose to look at this two ways. The negative (from a Stelena shipper perspective) way (and this is what DE'rs will be holding on to) would be that as soon as Elena's memories come back, she'll go back to being in love with Damon. That's entirely possible. It's up to the writers, after all. The positive way, and this is the way that I choose to think, is that this period of memory loss will give Elena the time and space she needs to breathe and come back to herself and work out who she is, who she wants to be, and what she wants in her life.

My point (I know, I ramble ), is that now Elena has the freedom that she hasn't had for two seasons. Now, with regard to this particular promo - I don't think Elena is all of a sudden back in love with Stefan. She's been through two seasons of crap and that's not suddenly just going to magically wear off. But it will be lovely to see these two soulmates be together without other influenc- oh wait, Caroline.
A lot of people predicted a Steroline-Stelena triangle this season and I think they are right. I don't even think Elena will initially have a problem with it. But I do think her feelings for Stefan are going to come back, slowly. That's when things will get interesting.

So this promo is being very melodramatic, but I think given what's happened with Elena's memories of Damon, all bets are off as a result.
I'm not naive. I don't believe that Damon and Elena won't try to rekindle when Elena's memories return. But I also don't think it will last. These two haven't worked as a couple for two seasons, they're not going to start magically working now. Plus, as I've said, Elena will have had some space to breathe and reflect. She'll realise that even as a vampire, Damon is not what she wants nor what she needs.

There needed to be a supernatural influence forcing them apart, but they don’t need anything to force them to fall in love again.

E在第三季就爱上D是事实，甚至觉得第三季以前她一再维护D的恶行，其实就是爱D，但爱D和选择不顾一切也要和他在一起是两回事。她选择的还是S，这也不光是理智，还有一些比如感觉，信仰，道德，等等。
E同时爱上两个是肯定有的，但并没有纠结该爱谁，到第三季末她也只是纠结一下该选择谁（其实是编剧为写后面的DE做的铺垫，包括那个公路上的初遇）。但前题是她觉得在S不在和迷失的日子里，D一直在帮助她，陪伴她，而D在那段时间也没有扭断她弟弟的脖子，乱杀路人。
第四季吸血鬼们被关起来，SE的深情对话，R妹子看到的那一幕，让她又羡又嫉又感动，即便宜再讨厌E也愿意帮助她喝到血。而之后E就突然就不爱S了。这种变化突兀而不合理。在我看来只能解释为E抗拒不了灵魂的阴暗面，嗜血的诱惑让她堕落而自曝自弃。但我们伟大的才高八斗的编剧大妈将之解释为了认宗。佩服！
