《左拳》导演说《囚徒》之前找他去执导，他当时找上杰克，让杰克演狼叔的角色，但当时杰克在演舞台剧，没时间，而导演自己有小孩，不太愿意拍讲小孩被绑架的电影。所以，因为这两个原因，他放弃了执导《囚徒》，杰克因档期不合也放弃了。（但没想到转了个圈，《囚徒》竟然又找上了杰克，虽然换了个角色）
Antoine Fuqua is glad Jake Gyllenhaal's schedule forced him to walk away from gritty drama Prisoners, because he wasn't looking forward to shooting the kidnap drama. The Training Day director was wrestling with his decision to make the film when his leading man had to put the project on hold to star in a play. Fuqua tells WENN, "I prepped for it and actually brought up Jake Gyllenhaal for the lead at the time. The timing was wrong because he was doing a play but I didn't really want to make that film... because he has kids.
