Gone Girl, Fury, Nightcrawler: 5 must-watch October movie releases

Now that we're moving slowly towards the end of the year, films with awards aspirations are beginning to creep into cinemas. This October sees Gone Girl, Fury and Nightcrawler arrive, a trio of thrillers that could well be dark horses when it comes to the Oscars.
Digital Spy rounds up the 5 must-see movies for October below...

芬奇＋小本的<Gone Girl>
Release date: October 3
Why you should see it: Gillian Flynn's breathless best-seller gets the movie treatment from David Fincher, and the early reviews have been unanimously positive. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike star as a couple whose marriage is on the rocks before the wife, Pike's Amy Dunne, vanishes on their fifth wedding anniversary. Fincher's film is gripping stuff, housing career-best performances from Affleck and Pike.

Release date: October 10
Why you should see it: Skins star Jack O'Connell is about to have a moment. After a brilliant turn in Starred Up, he's poised for stardom with a role in Angelina Jolie's Unbroken. Before that, though, we'll see him in the nerve-shredding '71, a war film about a British soldier trapped on the streets of Belfast during the Troubles.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles《忍者神龟》
Release date: October 17
Why you should see it: Two months after its Stateside bow, the Michael Bay-produced Ninja Turtles remake finally comes to the UK. There's been some criticism thanks to an ill-advised poster and the critical appraisals have been less than kind, but we're still curious to see how the half-shelled heroes translate to the big screen after a long absence.

Why you should see it: David Ayer's war drama casts Brad Pitt as a tank commander who must lead a five-man team behind enemy lines to complete a perilous mission. Selected as the closing night movie for this year's BFI London Film Festival, Fury looks like a promising World War II offering from the man behind End of Watch.

Release date: October 31
Why you should see it: Jake Gyllenhaal descends into the murky LA underworld as a sleazy journalist in Dan Gilroy's directorial debut.
