Installing Debian Jessie on Loongson-3A systems

Download Loongson-3A kernel for use with installer,
"vmlinuz*for-debian-installer" from here, then get the latest installer initrd
from:
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/jessie/main/installer-mipsel/current/images/loongson-2f/netboot/initrd.gz
(or chose a different mirror/installer version as required)
Put both files on a usb stick under easy to type names (use vfat file system
on the first primary partition). Rename the kernel image "vmlinuz" and the
initrd.gz to "initrd", press "c" during boot to enter the PMON prompt, then
type
load (usb0,0)/vmlinuz
initrd (usb0,0)/initrd
g
to start the installer. When the installation is almost done, enter a shell
(Ctrl+Alt+F2 or from the menu), then install the Debian kernel package you
found here from an usb stick or network location by typing:
mount proc /target/proc -t proc
chroot /target bash
apt-get install initramfs-tools
wget http://path/to/linux-image-*-dk2.deb -O kernel.deb
dpkg -i kernel.deb
apt-get install joe # or pico, or vi or whatever editor you prefer:
Then edit boot.cfg on the first partition of the first harddisk (this should
be an ext2 or ext3 partition, make sure you don*t have a boot.cfg on the first
partition of any connect USB stick, while booting, or that one will override
the one on disk). Check your /etc/fstab for how the root partition is named,
then add a boot entry like:
title Linux-3.5.0-8-dk2
kernel /dev/fs/ext2@wd0b/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-8.lemote-dk2
initrd /dev/fs/ext2@wd0b/boot/initrd.img-3.5.0-8.lemote-dk2
args console=tty1 root=UUID=abcdef0-1234-5678-90ab-1234675890
Replace UUID with the UUID of your root partition (or use astring like
/dev/mapper/* if your root partitino is on a LVM). use /dev/fs/ext2@wd0b/
prefix for kernel/initrd residing on the second primary partition of the disk;
use /dev/fs/ext2@wd0/ to use the the first partition instead. In case you
have a distinct /boot partition holding the kernel, remove string "boot/" from
the paths above.
Then make sure you return to the debian installer menu (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and make
sure you execute menu entry "Finish Installation".
