When Mr. Sicky A.K.A. John Hildebrand asked me if I wanted to design some cases for limited sale along side my campaign, I accepted with excitement. I*m always looking for good excuses to be creative and have fun outside of music. After doing research on what medium to use, and brainstorming for about a week on the design, I got started. The image in my brain is pretty much exactly how it turned out, which usually never happens when I do visual art so I am very pleased! I wanted to do a modern mountain landscape, signifying the connection Mr. Sicky and I both have to Park City, Utah. This connection is what bonded us from the start of our collaboration. Also, this visual is very in line with WOODRAT, a clothing line I*m currently working on in honor of my split life between the great outdoors and the urban music world. WOODRAT is the theme of everything I do now. When I pick out what to wear for the day, or when I*m playing a guitar part, I ask myself "what would WOODRAT do?"
My first challenge was figuring out how to integrate the red Sicky logo that was already printed in the center of the case. I decided to make it a road sign. That is how I got the idea to make the road that goes up into the mountains. I started by outlining the mountain range, then the sign and the road. As for the greenery, I had the vision of doing it in a modern green camo, giving an almost a stained glass effect.
I started with one case to test out my plan. Along the way I realized the colors I bought didn*t sit perfectly together, so I started mixing them until I got the results I wanted. The poopy green color is the only color that came directly out of the bottle. This is why there is a slight variance in color throughout the cases.
